These extraordinary new songs find Paul writing with rare openness about his childhood in post-war Liverpool, the resilience of his parents, and early adventures shared with George Harrison and John Lennon long before the world had ever heard of Beatlemania. Like his career, \u2018The Boys of Dungeon Lane\u2019 is musically eclectic and sees Paul across an array of instruments and styles showcasing his broad musicality. There\u2019s Wings-style rock, Beatles-style harmonies, McCartney-style grooves, understated intimacy, melody driven storytelling, character songs \u2013 the common thread being Paul.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tMcCartney also put up a trailer for the album, consisting mostly of snippets from the first single. So anyway, this is the past, you know \u2014 it\u2019s just a lot of memories of Liverpool for me, and that involves a little bit in the middle about John.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cThis is very much a memory song for me,\u201d McCartney added in a statement. \u201cThe album title, \u2018The Boys of Dungeon Lane,\u2019 comes from a lyric in this track. I was thinking just that, about the days I left behind and I do often wonder if I\u2019m just writing about the past but then I think how can you write about anything else? It\u2019s just a lot of memories of Liverpool.\u00a0It involves a bit in the middle about John and Forthlin Road which is the street I used to live in. Dungeon Lane is near there.\u00a0I used to live in a place called Speke which is quite working class.\u00a0We didn\u2019t have much at all but it didn\u2019t matter because all the people were great and you didn\u2019t notice you didn\u2019t have much.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe new album is helmed by one of the best-known producers of the modern era, Watt, who has said that he got a call to begin working with McCartney soon after he won the Grammy for producer of the year in 2021. Watt has specialized in working on veteran rockers\u2019 projects in recent years, including the Rolling Stones\u2019 \u201cHackney Diamonds,\u201d Ozzy Osbourne\u2019s \u201cOrdinary Man\u201d and \u201cPatient Number 9\u201d and Elton John\u2019s album with Brandi Carlile, \u201cWho Believes in Angels?\u201d Watt also produced Lady Gaga\u2019s \u201cMayhem\u201d and has worked on albums by Miley Cyrus, Post Malone, Pearl Jam and Justin Bieber.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe announcement for the album describes its origins five years ago when McCartney and Watt met \u201cfor a cup of tea and an exchange of ideas. While playing around on the guitar during the meeting, Paul happened upon a chord that even he \u2014 the world\u2019s most successful living songwriter \u2014 didn\u2019t recognise. Undeterred and driven by his experimental nature, Paul carried on changing one note, then another, until he had a three-chord sequence \u2014 which Watt suggested they should record. This session yielded the album\u2019s opening track, \u2018As You Lie There.\u201d\u2018Encouraged by his new producer, Paul would flesh out the new track, playing the majority of instruments \u2013 much in the spirit of his 1970 solo debut album,\u00a0\u2018McCartney.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe description continues with an explanation of how \u201cPaul\u2019s packed schedule meant that the album was recorded in tight and efficient sessions between legs of global tour dates spanning five years and alternating between Los Angeles and Sussex. The title location, Dungeon Lane, is a very narrow road in Speke, a suburb of Liverpool, adjacent to what is now Liverpool John Lennon Airport.
