‘<\/strong>Bard @ the Batture’<\/h3>\n

The original Globe Theater in England was an open-air round theater where playwright Williams Shakespeare launched his immortal scenes onto the world (well, onto England at first).<\/p>\n

And now, Crescent City Stage returns to the works to the Mississippi River for a unique presentation of some Shakespeare for “Bard @ the Batture.” The show will be a one-night-only event at 6:30 p.m. April 2, 25 Walnut St.<\/p>\n

With a cast of three women and three men, the evening of parts of 12 shows and sonnets will delve into a variety of shows, from “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” and “As You Like It” to “Romeo and Juliet” and “Much Ado About Nothing.” The show features the talents of Mallory Osigian Favaloro, Nia Ragini, Wendy Miklovic, Nick DiJulio, Jarrod Smith and Jason Bayle.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Co-conceived by duo of Michael A. and Elizabeth Elkins Newcomer, Michael Newcomer also serves as the director of the production.<\/p>\n

“There\u2019s something powerful about experiencing Shakespeare under the open sky, and ‘Bard @ the Batture’ is our way of reconnecting great classical work with a modern New Orleans audience,” he said. “With a professional cast made up largely of Actors\u2019 Equity Association members, we\u2019re delivering work at a very high level.”<\/p>\n

The company and the concept have already proven popular with local audiences.<\/p>\n

“The fact that we sold out two weeks before the event shows us how eager this city is for more theatrical programming like this.”<\/p>\n

‘Bastard Nation’<\/h3>\n

Nothing brings out family secrets like wills and death, and that’s exactly what’s happening in the final installment of a trilogy on reproductive health by local playwright Anita Vatshell opening Thursday at New Marigny Theatre.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In “Bastard Nation: Decolonizing Love and Family,” Vatshell’s story looks at the death of family matriarch and the secrets revealed to the siblings through her will. The comedy looks at adoption, generational curses and “the messy dynamics of family love.”\u00a0<\/p>\n

Featured in the show, directed by Pamela Davis Noland, are Toya Boudy, Todd d\u2019Amour, Mark Druhet, Andrea Dube\u0301, Claudia Duran, Terry Miles and Jennifer Pagan.<\/p>\n

A registered nurse with more than two decades of reproductive health care and advocacy, Vatshell’s first two works include “Operating Theatre” and “Open Up the Kingdom Mama.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
