{"id":2346870,"date":"2026-03-26T20:25:31","date_gmt":"2026-03-26T20:25:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/?p=2346870"},"modified":"2026-03-26T20:25:31","modified_gmt":"2026-03-26T20:25:31","slug":"future-use-of-chiefs-royals-stadiums-put-to-county-task-force","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/future-use-of-chiefs-royals-stadiums-put-to-county-task-force\/","title":{"rendered":"Future use of Chiefs, Royals stadiums put to county task force"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div id=\"\"><!----><!----><\/p>\n<figure\/><!-- WPS-5038 -- removed the script from WPS and added the placeholder for trinity player --><!----><!----><!----><!----><!----><!----><!-- CONTENT --><!--[--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>As the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals both aim for a likely exit of the <a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.kansascity.com\/news\/local\/article314255118.html\">Truman Sports Complex<\/a>, Jackson County is taking its first steps toward determining an alternative future for the site.<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>Interim County Executive Phil LeVota said the stadium\u2019s evolving status is one of the top areas of concerns he\u2019s heard from county residents, alongside issues with the county tax assessment process.<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>LeVota announced Wednesday that Jackson County will establish a task force to begin the process of deciding what to do with the current sports complex, which could involve tearing one or both stadiums down to build something entirely new.<\/p>\n<p><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is my responsibility to make sure that the 400 acres of prime county-owned land is not going to sit idle, but is positioned best for the people of Jackson County,\u201d LeVota said at a Thursday news conference. \u201cThis is not just about what\u2019s leaving, it\u2019s about what we\u2019re going to build.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>The task force will have 10-15 members, LeVota said, including business leaders, developers and community stakeholders. The group will launch on April 15 and will have 90 days to draft a proposal for use of the site, or, as LeVota put it, to, \u201cdig in, ask the right questions, investigate and help shape the vision for what the site can become.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<figure class=\"photo-inline-\">\n<div class=\"img-container picture \">                        <figcaption>                                            A marker of history standing at a crossroads. They will be assisted by a master redevelopment commission \u2014 a second task force with a five-year lifespan \u201cto ensure long-term oversight and continuity\u201d \u2014 along with a third team dedicated to actually enacting whatever remodeling plan is chosen.<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>LeVota described the sports complex, including Arrowhead and Kauffman stadiums, as a \u201cgenerational asset\u201d that the county intends to prevent from falling into blight if the Chiefs and Royals no longer call it home.<\/p>\n<p><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>Both teams have said they will leave Truman Sports Complex by 2031, LeVota confirmed Thursday. However, LeVota said, the county is open to leaving Kauffman intact for a year or more as the Royals finalize their decision.<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe ideas are, do we repurpose Arrowhead Stadium?\u201d LeVota said. \u201cDo we tear down Kauffman Stadium? Repurpose all of it? Tear everything down? That\u2019s what we don\u2019t know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"h2\">Ongoing questions and concerns<\/h2>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>The potential cost of demolition is still unknown, as is the potential tax burden to residents, LeVota said. The selection process for Arrowhead\u2019s future will involve a series of public meetings and town halls, he said, along with work from an outside consultant, which the county plans to hire.<\/p>\n<p><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>However, Levota pledged that the redevelopment process \u201cwill not be driven by political pressure or outside development interest.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is going to be as transparent as you can be,\u201d LeVota said. \u201cThere\u2019s going to be agreements, there\u2019s going to be collaboration, and we\u2019re going to get it right.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>LeVota opened Thursday\u2019s press conference by saying he would prefer not to move a data center into the space.
