Vince Vaughn commented on the decline of late night ratings on Theo Von\u2019s podcast and his framing is interesting<\/a>. He said (in part), \u201cThe podcasts have gotten so much more popular with less production, less writers [and] less staff because people want authenticity. And I think that the talk shows, to a large part, became really agenda-based.” Late night show ratings have been in decline for decades and I think it\u2019s a bunch of reasons (including the way we consume media \u2013 \u201clate night\u201d used to cap off the day, but that doesn\u2019t really fit in a 24\/7 news cycle). Vaughn\u2019s remarks imply that podcasts are not agenda-driven when Theo Von and Joe Rogan (a consistent #1 spot) are MAGA-adjacent, that\u2019s how they built their audiences. And I\u2019d also point out that, like talk shows, podcasts are a very safe space for celebrities. The hosts rarely ever push back and there\u2019s no audience, as well as the ability to edit and do retakes, as well as get final approval from PR teams. Podcasts are just as much the establishment as late night TV.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n It\u2019s bad enough that TV is so dark, now the posters are dark too?!
