Meyers reacted to a video of Trump telling the \u201cstory of the paper clip\u201d earlier this week.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cHundred and eighty-two years ago, a man discovered the paper clip. It was so simple. And everybody that looked at it said, \u2018Why didn\u2019t I think of that?\u2019\u201d the president said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Meyers called out the inaccuracy of the president\u2019s story, \u201cOf fucking course it wasn\u2019t 182 years ago! He\u2019s just pulling numbers out of his ass like an ICE agent doing a cavity search at the airport.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

The \u201cLate Night\u201d host found particular joy in one line from Trump\u2019s tale: that a man \u201cdiscovered the paper clip.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cNobody \u2018discovered\u2019 the paper clip. It was invented. Do you think Steve Jobs just found an iPod sticking out of the sand in the beach one day? He\u2019s like, \u2018Oh, look at this luck. I\u2019ll have to \u2014 I\u2019ll have to wear my lucky outfit the rest of my life,\u2019\u201d he joked.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Meyers later aired news clips on gas prices increasing to nearly $9 a gallon in Los Angeles, including one video where an expert didn\u2019t rule out<\/a> prices reaching up to $10 a gallon due to the Iran war.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201c$10 a gallon? How am I supposed to afford that? I don\u2019t got paper clip money,\u201d he quipped.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
