\u201cPsychological\u201d marks the band\u2019s first release following \u201cThe Good Life<\/a>\u201d,\u00a0released in 2019. The Band Perry,\u00a0comprising\u00a0the husband-and-wife tandem of Kimberly Perry and Johnny Costello, revealed in a recent interview how the single resonates strongly with the beginning of their love story. Costello replaced Kimberly\u2019s brothers, Neil and Reid. Neil did not return after the band\u2019s hiatus, while Reid left last year to focus on career management.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Perry and Costello had what can be considered a whirlwind romance, with Perry admitting to trying hard not to say \u201cI love you\u201d to Costello 24 hours after meeting him. However,\u00a0it seems Costello\u00a0felt the same because eight months later, they got engaged, and shortly after, eloped to Las Vegas. \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Perry\u00a0revealed<\/a>\u00a0that when she heard \u201cPsychological\u201d during a pitch session last year, it was a song she could instantly relate to. The track follows the singer singing about being obsessed and changing themselves to fit someone else\u2019s type. \u201cAs the narrator and storyteller of this\u00a0song.\u00a0I\u00a0definitely have\u00a0related to it in many seasons in my life,\u201d referring to her and Costello\u2019s intense love affair and a crush she had in high school. \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

When it was pitched to them, Allison Jones, Big Machine executive VP of A&R, and the duo thought it was an ideal song for them. Perry said, \u201cWhat it takes to be a Band Perry song, really, are the contradictions of those two worlds. You start out sweet and become a little unhinged.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

She added, \u201cEven though\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0such a big, bombastic song,\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0really confessing devotion and letting that tie into delusion. And isn\u2019t that what love is, after all? Just a combo of the two?\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Based on the comments section of the band\u2019s YouTube page, fans are rejoicing over the band\u2019s return to its country roots. One fan wrote, The Band Perry may have lost its brothers, but at least\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0returned to its country sound!\u201d Another commented, \u201cDamn, it sounds so 2010\u2019s Band Perry\u00a0I\u2019m\u00a0freaking loving it!!!\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
