Janis Reeser<\/span> The Charlevoix Public Library has released its events calendar for April, featuring a wide range of programs for all ages.<\/p>\n Highlights include National Poetry Month celebrations and various educational workshops, according to a community announcement.<\/p>\n April is National Poetry Month, and the library is hosting several events to honor the occasion. On April 21, author John Mauk will lead a poetry workshop titled \u201cPoetry Across Genres: Why Writers of All Stripes Should Keep Poets Close\u201d at 2 p.m. in the Community Room. The first 20 participants to register will receive a free copy of his book \u201cWhere All Things Flatten.\u201d<\/p>\n Later that evening, the library will host \u201cBards of Northern Michigan: Live Poetry Reading\u201d at 6 p.m. Mauk will serve as the emcee and keynote speaker, discussing \u201cThe Poetry of Fiction, Memoir, Essay and Everything Else.\u201d Regional poets will read from their published works, and light refreshments will be provided. No registration is required for the reading.<\/p>\n The library is offering \u201cYoga, Meditation and Breathing Practices\u201d online from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Wednesdays through May 20. Heidi Grace of Charlevoix Yoga will lead the classes, which are open to all levels.<\/p>\n On April 1, the Bier\u2019s & Books Discussion Group will meet at 6 p.m. at Bier\u2019s Inwood Brewery, 17959 Ferry Road, to discuss \u201cEverything I Learned, I Learned in a Chinese Restaurant\u201d by Curtis Chin. This memoir explores themes of identity and family against the backdrop of 1980s Detroit.<\/p>\n The Great Decisions Series will continue at 1 p.m. April 2 with a discussion on \u201cRuptured Alliances and the Risk of Nuclear Proliferation\u201d facilitated by Dr. William Wadland. Participants are expected to read the briefing book provided before the presentation.<\/p>\n The Spring Concert Series will feature Bradford Lewis at 6:30 p.m. April 6. Lewis is known for his fingerstyle guitar and passion for blues, folk and rock music.<\/p>\n On April 7, attorney Ryan Hulst will present \u201cPreparing for the Legal Issues of Older Adults\u201d at 6 p.m. The program will cover estate planning, trusts, finances, wills, probate, guardianships, Medicare and Medicaid.<\/p>\n Marie Rothenberger will lead a \u201cSound Journey\u201d at 6 p.m. April 14. Participants are encouraged to bring a yoga mat, blankets, pillows, a journal and an eye cover.<\/p>\n On April 20, the BookTalkers group will discuss Chin\u2019s memoir \u201cEverything I Learned, I Learned in a Chinese Restaurant\u201d at 6 p.m. in the Armstrong Conference Room. Registration is required.<\/p>\n The Charlevoix Film Club will screen \u201cStranger Than Fiction\u201d at 5 p.m. April 23 in Community Room A. A discussion will follow the movie.<\/p>\n Dan Ripke will perform in the final Spring Concert Series event at 6:30 p.m. April 27. Ripke is known for his story-driven songwriting that blends blues, folk, fusion and Americana.<\/p>\n The library\u2019s Spring Break Fun runs March 27-April 6, offering activities for all ages without registration. Events include a Styrofoam printed tote bag workshop, a teen Mario Kart tournament, a \u201cCloudy Crafternoon\u201d for kids, a teen spooky sensory play session, storytime in the Youth Activity Center and a family movie matinee, among others.<\/p>\n Lego Adventures will take place from 3:30-5 p.m. April 7 in the Youth Activity Center for ages 6 and older. Participants can tackle unique Lego building challenges or create their own designs.<\/p>\n The Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra will present \u201cLittle Waves,\u201d a children\u2019s program, at 1 p.m. April 11. This initiative invites young explorers to discover music and instruments in a relaxed setting.<\/p>\n The library\u2019s playgroup will meet from 10:30 a.m. to noon April 15 in the Youth Activity Center for children ages 6 and younger. The session will include books, toys, music, sensory activities and crafts.<\/p>\n Sensory Sunday Playgroup is scheduled for 2-3:30 p.m. April 19, offering sensory play for kids ages 6 and younger.<\/p>\n The Kid\u2019s Crafternoon: Tea Light Planets will be held from 4-5 p.m. April 20 in the Youth Activity Center for ages 6 and older.<\/p>\n Storytime will continue every Thursday from 10:30-11 a.m. in the Youth Activity Center for children ages 6 and younger.<\/p>\n Dungeons & Dragons & Pizza for Teens will take place at 4 p.m. April 9 and 23 in the Coeling Activity Room. Teens ages 13-17 can join the adventure, which includes character building and gameplay. Registration is required and limited to eight participants.<\/p>\n Pizza Pockets & Puzzles is scheduled for 4:30-6 p.m. April 28.
