The weather has calmed down after yesterday\u2019s blizzard conditions and orange weather alert \u2014 so we, in good conscience, can recommend some activities for you this weekend.<\/p>\n

Today (March 27), five artists who participated in the international S\u00cdM Residency in the past three months present In Resonance<\/em><\/a><\/strong>, a culmination of their work at the S\u00cdM Residency Project Space (Seljavegur 32). This is their second and last day, so make sure to check it out from 14:00 to 18:00 before it\u2019s gone!<\/p>\n

Glerh\u00fasi\u00f0 hosts an event in tandem with \u00d3l\u00f6f Nordal\u2019s exhibition \u00d3<\/em>, welcoming eight poets<\/a><\/strong> to read amidst the art, starting at 17:00. Simultaneously, Gallery Kannski opens the exhibition\u00a0Swing<\/a><\/strong> Test<\/a><\/strong><\/em>, a dual exhibition of Anna Schlechter and Nottabird (comprised of Boaz Yosef Friedman and Jessie Evans) exploring communication through video works, found object sculptures, and more.\u00a0Later, at 20:30, T\u00f3nab\u00ed\u00f3 celebrates their first week open with a concert with Cell7, CYBER, and KUSK & \u00d3viti<\/a><\/strong>!<\/p>\n

On Saturday, March 28, if you\u2019re itching to get out of town, art and cultural project\u00a0Bergm\u00e1l og Sj\u00e1varlj\u00f3s<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>celebrates their opening at 15:30 with a set from S\u00f3lr\u00fan Mj\u00f6ll Kjartansd\u00f3ttir and petals, followed by a performance R\u00e1\u00f0hildur \u00d3lafsd\u00f3ttir. The project is based in the lighthouse in Akranes, and will run until April 19.<\/p>\n

In the evening, Studio Silo and Smekkleysa present S\u00daRMJ\u00d3LK #1<\/a><\/strong>, celebrating all things loud. Akranes-based Snowed In, Str\u00e1kurinn F\u00e1kurinn, punks Tjaldvagn, and Liverpool-based Dead Raze all will take the stage, and the hosts note: \u201cMild crowd anarchy permitted \/\/ Bring your earplugs \/\/ Bring your smile.\u201d<\/p>\n

This weekend also marks the final days of Stockfish<\/a><\/strong>, which we previewed in the issue of the Grapevine that you can find around town right now (or online right here<\/a><\/strong>). Closing out the festival is the Icelandic premiere of Hlynur P\u00e1lmason\u2019s Joan of arc<\/a><\/strong><\/em>, plus a Q&A after the screening with the director himself.<\/p>\n

This evening\u2019s artists include the captivating Sal\u00f3me Katr\u00edn, whose passionate performing and sweet voice leave all audiences feeling lighter; the tender Andervel, whose textured songs explore the frontperson Jos\u00e9\u2019s experiences while deftly weaving lyrics in Icelandic, Spanish, and English; and prolific rapper, Grapevine Music Awards\u2019 Album Of The Year winner, Birnir. Artists Adam Flint Taylor, Clare Aim\u00e9e, Julie Sj\u00f6fn Gasiglia, Natka Klimowicz, Patty Spyrakos, Pola Sutryk, and Vikram Pradhan present their group exhibition on the \u201cmundane moments that combine to bend the arc of one\u2019s life in a direction fundamentally different from where it began.\u201d Iceland has become home to all the artists in the exhibition, for one reason or another, and each of them reflects in Sambland Combi-Nation<\/em> on how life has led them here.\u00a0ISH<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

In its third iteration, the Reykjav\u00edk Early Music Festival continues to celebrate baroque music with Icelandic-based artists and international ones alike. This year\u2019s programme ranges from a concert from the\u00a0Low Key\u00a0Ensemble entitled \u201cBassa,\u00a0meiri\u00a0bassa!\u201d (Bass, more bass!) to multiple family concerts. The artists travelling to Iceland for the festival include multiple lutenists and an ensemble which combines music, dance, and theatre in their performances, all sure to be more exciting than\u00a0you\u2019d\u00a0think early music to be.\u00a0<\/span>ISH<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
