Savannah Guthrie will return to NBC News\u2019s \u201cToday\u201d show in April, two months after the disappearance<\/a> of her mother, Nancy Guthrie.<\/p>\n

She will return to hosting the show on Monday, April 6. Savannah Guthrie explained her decision in an interview with NBC\u2019s Hoda Kotb that aired Friday morning.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s hard to imagine doing it because it\u2019s such a place of joy and lightness,\u201d she told Kotb. \u201cI can\u2019t come back and try to be someone that I\u2019m not, but I can\u2019t not come back because it\u2019s my family.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s part of my purpose right now,\u201d Guthrie continued. \u201cI want to smile, and when I do, it will be real, and my joy will be my protest. My joy will be my answer, and being there is joyful.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Guthrie family last saw Nancy Guthrie at her home in Tucson, Ariz., on the evening of Jan. 31, and they reported her missing the following day, after she failed to show up for church.<\/p>\n

A months-long investigation<\/a> led by the Pima County Sheriff\u2019s office and the FBI scrutinized several purported ransom letters, thousands of submitted tips and evidence from Nancy Guthrie\u2019s home. The county sheriff said he believed she was \u201cabducted.\u201d However, no substantial leads were made in the case.<\/p>\n

Savannah Guthrie said during a clip from the interview released earlier this week that her family is in \u201cagony\u201d following their mother\u2019s disappearance.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wake up every night in the middle of the night, every night. And in the darkness, I imagine her terror. And it is unthinkable, but those thoughts demand to be thought,\u201d Savannah Guthrie said. \u201cAnd I will not hide my face. But she needs to come home now.\u201d<\/p>\n

She said in Friday\u2019s interview she is determined not to let her mother\u2019s captors \u201ctake my joy.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThey will not take our faith, but our anguish is real,\u201d Savannah Guthrie said. \u201cWe need help. We need someone to tell the truth. I have no anger in my heart. I have hope in my heart, I have love, but this family needs peace.\u201d<\/p>\n
