it\u2019s the ultimate royal action \u2013 kings, queens, princes and
\nprincesses all become experts at unveiling plaques very early on.
\nBut Charles III has found that even the most seasoned of plaque
\nunveilers can run into unexpected problems and he started talking
\nmagic to get out of it.<\/p>\n

As The King unveiled a plaque marking his visit to Oxford
\nPhotovoltaics, his usual routine went a little wrong. In the
\nprocess of removing a rather elegant blue cloth from the plaque,
\nwhich was propped up on an easel, he found the memento of his visit
\ncrashing to the ground.<\/p>\n

King Charles reacted with an instant laugh and told his hosts
\nand waiting reporters that \u201dthis isn\u2019t a magic trick!\u201d. He was
\nstill laughing as the plaque was retrieved, apparently unharmed by
\nits unfortunate crash landing.<\/p>\n

As it was placed back on its easel, The King suggested it would
\nend up \u201din the downstairs loo\u201d.<\/p>\n

Oxford PV, a globally-recognised pioneer of solar technology,
\nwelcomed The King for a tour on March 27. King Charles was given an
\noverview of their work in solar panels which focuses on using more
\nof the sun\u2019s power to harness clean energy.<\/p>\n

Aside from the plaque malfunction, The King took a deep interest
\nin the work which he called \u201dso vitally needed\u201d.<\/p>\n

And he was given a memento which clearly pleased him. The King
\nwas handed a customised solar panel cell which he described as
\n\u201dmarvellous\u201d.<\/p>\n

It came at the end of a busy week for King Charles who headed to
\nOxford from a visit to Cornwall which saw him celebrate the 25th
\nanniversary of another environmental landmark, The Eden Project.
\nHowever, that wasn\u2019t without its problems either.
\nKing Charles and Queen Camilla struggled to cut a giant cake<\/a>
\nwith an event larger sword on that visit.<\/p>\n

The visit tied in firmly with The King\u2019s well known work on
\nsustainability and the environment. He has been championing issues
\nlike solar energy for decades.<\/p>\n

King Charles, 77, has continued his work away from the cameras.
\nThis week has also seen him receive a number of new ambassadors, a
\nvital part of their role as they technically can\u2019t exercise their
\nrole until their have presented their Letters of Credential to the
\nHead of State. The King has also held an investiture and was later
\nat the side of Queen Camilla as she hosted a reception for The
\nQueen\u2019s Reading Room.<\/p>\n

Next week will see The King and Queen travel to St. Asaph in
\nWales for the traditional service marking Maundy Thursday. King
\nCharles will present Maundy Money to 77 men and 77 women, chosen
\nfor their work in the community. Monarchs traditionally gave out
\nmoney and alms on Maundy Thursday.<\/p>\n
