[Warning: The below contains MAJOR spoilers for\u00a0The Lincoln Lawyer<\/em><\/a> Season 4.]<\/strong><\/p>\n The Lincoln Lawyer<\/em> drops a bombshell on Mickey (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo<\/a>) in the last scene of Season 4 when it introduces Cobie Smulders<\/a>\u2018 character. And if you\u2019re thinking she\u2019s playing at least a version of a character from Michael Connelly<\/a>\u2018s books, you\u2019d be right. Yes, we will be seeing more of her in Season 5<\/a>.<\/p>\n After the end of his trial and with his reputation restored, Mickey is looking to the future at the end of the Season 4 finale. He\u2019s even planning to cook, hence a stop at the grocery store, where he notices Smulders\u2019 character watching him. She then approaches him in the parking lot, confirms he\u2019s Mickey Haller, and saves him as shots are fired in his direction. The FBI, including Ruth (Sasha Alexander<\/a>), then shows up; the Armenians were targeting him after the case. But the more intriguing part is who Smulders\u2019 character, Allison, says she is. She says that her instincts kicked in when she saw a guy eyeballing him and reaching into his jacket, then adds, \u201cActually, I\u2019m your sister.\u201d The season ends with Mickey staring at her.<\/p>\n In Connelly\u2019s books, Mickey doesn\u2019t have a sister.\u00a0But<\/em> he has a half-brother in Harry Bosch, who has his own series on Prime Video<\/a>, and with\u00a0The Lincoln Lawyer<\/em> a Netflix show, crossovers are impossible. So, that makes us assume that Cobie Smulders is playing\u00a0The Lincoln Lawyer<\/em>\u2018s version of Bosch. Manuel Garcia-Rulfo told us, \u201cIt does seem like it.\u201d<\/p>\n And when TV Insider asked co-showrunner Ted Humphrey<\/a> if that is, in fact, the case, he said, \u201cIs this how we\u2019re bringing in Bosch? Well, I wouldn\u2019t put it that way because of course we don\u2019t have the rights to Bosch. Bosch is on another network. But there\u2019s obvious parallels, I suppose you could say, in some ways. It\u2019s how we\u2019re expanding the world of the show, the world of Mickey\u2019s family and introducing what we think is going to be a really compelling new character who can stand on her own two feet.\u201d<\/p>\n Right now, Mickey\u2019s reaction is pure shock. But does he believe that she is who she says she is to him? After all, it would be understandable if he had reservations.<\/p>\n \u201cI think at the beginning he\u2019s very skeptical, but there\u2019s something weird. There\u2019s something when you have those sensations or this feeling,\u201d Garcia-Rulfo admitted. \u201cBecause I think if he would not believe it, he would just be like, \u2018Ah, you\u2019re crazy.\u2019 That\u2019s it. There\u2019s something that holds his attention and there\u2019s a feeling there that, you know what? This might be true. But I think he\u2019s a little skeptical.\u201d<\/p>\n Added Humphrey, \u201cHe\u2019s just stunned, right? And we go out on that. So he doesn\u2019t know what to think, but hopefully fairly quickly he will have a better sense of who this person really is and what\u2019s really going on.\u201d<\/p>\n Assuming that she is who she says she is, there\u2019s also the matter of how Mickey feels about having a sister in his life at this point. Garcia-Rulfo isn\u2019t so sure about that.<\/p>\n \u201cI think he thrives on chaos and drama, and so I think it\u2019s good for him,\u201d he shared.<\/p>\n For Humphrey, bringing in Cobie Smulder\u2019s\u00a0Lincoln Lawyer<\/em> character is part of the show\u2019s evolution.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s always important to be introducing new situations for characters and new characters and new situations for existing characters. I think Mickey is a loner. We\u2019ve seen that and he struggles with that and he has a lot of close people in his life who are like his family, like Lorna [Becki Newton<\/a>], Maggie [Neve Campbell<\/a>], his daughter [Krista Warner<\/a>], Legal Siegel [Elliott Gould<\/a>] and these people around him, Cisco [Angus Sampson<\/a>]. He has his mother, but that relationship is complicated, let\u2019s put it that way. And he has these very complicated memories of his father,\u201d the showrunner pointed out.<\/p>\n He continued, \u201cAnd so the idea that there\u2019s actually a real familial connection there and what does that mean and first of all, is it real? Where does it come from? And if it is real, how are they alike? How are they different? What are their different skillsets and things that they bring to life?\u201d<\/p>\n Courtesy of Netflix<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Humphrey also, at the time of the interview (which took place before the renewal for Season 5 was announced), told TV Insider that Allison is important for the next story.<\/p>\n \u201cCobie\u2019s character will be the vehicle through which the main story of another season will come to Mickey, that she needs his help with something basically,\u201d he teased. \u201cAnd there\u2019s a whole twisted story as to why that is and that part of the fun of that season would be unraveling what that is and what it means.\u201d<\/p>\n It has since been revealed that Season 5 will be inspired by the seventh book in Connelly\u2019s series,\u00a0Resurrection Walk<\/em>. According to the synopsis for that book, \u201cLincoln Lawyer Mickey Haller enlists the help of his half-brother, Harry Bosch, to prove the innocence of a woman convicted of killing her ex-husband \u2026.\u00a0a sheriff\u2019s deputy. \u2026 Bosch reviews the case and sees elements that don\u2019t add up, and a sheriff\u2019s department intent on bringing quick justice in the killing of one of its own. Now Haller has an uphill battle in court, a David fighting Goliaths to vindicate his client.
