Prince Philip<\/a> was living with inoperable pancreatic cancer for almost eight years prior to his death in 2021, a new book has revealed. Shared in Queen Elizabeth II, which was serialised exclusively in the Mail on Sunday<\/a>, biographer Hugo Vickers revealed that the late royal was diagnosed during a hospital stay in June 2013.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n He died at the age of 99 on April 9, 2021, just two months before what would have been his 100th birthday. The cause of death was noted as “old age”.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Writing about the final night of his life, the biographer revealed that he gave nurses the slip and shuffled along a corridor at Windsor Castle on his Zimmer frame.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n He then poured himself a beer before drinking it in the Oak Room, a sitting room at the residence.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n He added: “The following morning, he got up, had a bath, said he did not feel well and quietly slipped away.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n “By this point, he had lived with pancreatic cancer for nearly eight years – far longer than the usual survival time from diagnosis.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n The late Queen Elizabeth II, who died at the age of 96 in September 2022, was not present when her husband passed away.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n It has been reported that the late Queen was upset that “as so often in life, he left without saying goodbye”.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Philip was previously hospitalised in December 2011 for a blocked coronary artery, and in 2013 was treated at the private London Clinic in Marylebone.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Doctors detected a shadow on his pancreas, and “cut him right across his stomach” for exploratory surgery.
