Prince Philip had his very own shade of green and no one outside
\nthe Royal Family was really aware of it until after he had
\ndied.<\/p>\n

The colour, called Edinburgh Green, made headlines when Queen
\nElizabeth II wore it for a memorial service in honour of her
\nhusband, held several months after his death.<\/p>\n

As royalty from around the world arrived at Westminster Abbey
\nfor the service, held on March 29 2022, many were in black, the
\ntraditional colour of mourning. However, a noticeable number were
\nin a dark green shade and that\u2019s when Philip\u2019s own colours became
\ncommon knowledge.<\/p>\n

The late Queen Elizabeth II was dressed in a deep green coat
\nwith matching hat. Her daughter in law, now Queen Camilla, also
\nwore the shade as did Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip\u2019s daughter,
\nPrincess Anne.<\/p>\n

The shade is also known as \u2018Edinburgh Green\u2019. Prince Philip\u2019s
\nofficial livery was dark green and his page at the Coronation wore
\nthe shade. Dark green is also one of the colours of half mourning
\nand, as was the case at his memorial, it is trimmed with black to
\ndenote grief.<\/p>\n

The Royal Family\u2019s official
\nwebsite<\/a> notes that \u2018Edinburgh Green\u2019 is a dark shade and was
\nused on private liveries for the Duke.<\/p>\n

Queen Elizabeth II chose a dark green coat and hat, both trimmed
\nwith black, for this special Service of Thanksgiving which took
\nplace just days ahead of the first anniversary of Prince Philip\u2019s
\ndeath. The prince passed away on April 9 2021 at Windsor Castle at
\nthe age of 99. His funeral was held at a time of social distancing
\nduring the coronavirus pandemic and only thirty people could
\nattend. The memorial service allowed many more to pay tribute.<\/p>\n

Among them were royalty from around the world. Princess Beatrix
\nof the Netherlands, who reigned as queen from 1980 until 2013, also
\nwore Edinburgh green trimmed with black. Queen Letizia of Spain,
\nwhose husband King Felipe was related to Prince Philip through
\ntheir shared Greek royal ancestry, also wore Edinburgh green to the
\nservice.<\/p>\n

There was another special nod to Prince Philip in the outfit
\nworn at this memorial service by Queen Camilla. Her outfit was the
\none she wore when she took over as Colonel-in-Chief of the Rifles
\nfrom Prince Philip in what would be his final public engagement.
\nQueen Camilla also wore her Rifles brooch as a tribute.<\/p>\n

Other members of the Royal Family wore shades traditionally
\nassociated with mourning or half mourning clothes at the memorial.
\nKate, now Princess of Wales, chose a black dress with white spots
\nand a black hat with white trim, again keeping to mourning
\nprotocols.<\/p>\n

The shade of Edinburgh green is now much better known and one
\nroyal who has worn it often in the years since is Philip\u2019s daughter
\nin law, Sophie. She had adopted the shade much more often since her
\nhusband, Prince Edward, became Duke of Edinburgh.<\/p>\n
