\n \u201cI just feel like art and community and any sort of gathering around something that\u2019s going to uplift us or bring us closer to each other in our city, that\u2019s the antidote to troubled times,\u201d Derek Heath, a 39-year-old graphic designer, told celebrity.land before the show. \u201cI think that inherently this experience fits within the world of fighting back against tyranny and fighting back against hate.\u201d\n <\/p>\n
\n Waiting in line to enter the venue, Annika Ahmed, a 44-year-old employed by Los Angeles Unified School District, said she previously attended several No Kings rallies, but skipped that day\u2019s to wait in line at the Fonda ahead of the show. Thousands of people turned out in Los Angeles Saturday, joining millions across the country, to protest Trump.\n <\/p>\n
\n Ahmed said though she couldn\u2019t attend the protest, she felt good about putting her support behind \u201csomeone who we hope has good values and good ideas about how things should be,\u201d referring to McCartney.\n <\/p>\n
\n She was looking forward to hearing \u201cBlackbird\u201d \u2013 a solemn acoustic track that McCartney wrote amid the 1960s civil rights movement in the United States inspired by the Little Rock Nine. She wasn\u2019t disappointed.\n <\/p>\n
\n In addition to the 1968 hit, McCartney played a roster of Beatles classics, including \u201cHelp!\u201d, \u201cSomething\u201d and \u201cI\u2019ve Just Seen a Face.\u201d He also played some Wings bangers, including \u201cBand on the Run\u201d and \u201cLet Me Roll It,\u201d among many others during his two-hour set.\n <\/p>\n
\n Some of the Beatles\u2019 political hits, like \u201cRevolution\u201d \u2014 a response to the fraught period of political protests in opposition of the Vietnam War \u2014 and McCartney\u2019s anti-war anthem \u201cPipes of Peace\u201d didn\u2019t make the setlist.\n <\/p>\n
\n Many in the crowd \u2014 which also included actors Steve Carrell, Laura Dern and Dakota Johnson among others \u2014 sang and cried as McCartney played, particularly during \u201cHey Jude\u201d and \u201cLet It Be.\u201d\n <\/p>\n
\n McCartney announced his 19th studio album last week titled \u201cThe Boys of Dungeon Lane,\u201d due out in May.\n <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
