A TikToker who goes by Nadia Salmon posted a video recounting being\u00a0groomed by a former history teacher beginning when she was around 15 years old.<\/p>\n
Salmon said the teacher, who had previously instructed her in sixth or seventh grade, approached her after learning her boyfriend at the time was speaking negatively about her to teammates on a school basketball team he coached.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe comes up to me one day, and he\u2019s like, \u2018Hey, I just want you to know he\u2019s talking bad about you. I hope you\u2019re okay, because it\u2019s not cool, it\u2019s not nice. If you need anything, here\u2019s my number,\u201d Salmon recounted.<\/p>\n
She said he subsequently brought her food at school and helped her get into games, while their text exchanges gradually became inappropriate.<\/p>\n
\u201cOne day, the messages got inappropriate, and he was asking if I knew how to do certain things, and I was like, no. I\u2019ve never really seen anything like that. I don\u2019t know how to do any of the stuff that you\u2019re saying I should know how to do,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd so then he proceeds to tell me what to do, shows me, and this is all over text message.\u201d<\/p>\n
Salmon said she later learned he was married. \u201cI didn\u2019t know he had a wife,\u201d she said. \u201cI found out he had a wife, and then I was like, \u2018Wait, you have a wife?\u2019 And he\u2019s like, \u2018It\u2019s okay. It\u2019s like an open relationship.\u201d<\/p>\n
She described being too young to understand the situation. \u201cI was literally so young. I did not understand how any of that shit worked,\u201d she said, adding that she eventually stopped responding to him.<\/p>\n
Salmon said she did not disclose the experience to anyone for roughly a year or two. The situation came to a head when she returned home for the summer and encountered the teacher at a community pool. Seeing him interact with children reignited her distress.<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t know why, but that literally pissed me off so bad,\u201d she said. \u201cI was just like, \u2018Damn.\u2019 Like, I literally would feel so gross knowing that she would one day, if he\u2019s still there, be in his class.\u201d<\/p>\n
She said she contacted him again, and he expressed interest in pursuing a romantic relationship. \u201cHe was telling me, \u2018Oh, I would love to take you on a date,’\u201d Salmon said. \u201cAnd I was just like, \u2018Bro, what? Like, was this your plan, like, the whole time?’\u201d<\/p>\n
During that exchange, she said he admitted to having harbored romantic thoughts about her while she was still his student. \u201cIn our old messages, he was saying that whenever I was first in his class, he would have thoughts about me and wanted to see me in another kind of way,\u201d she said. \u201cThis whole time I was in your class, that\u2019s how you saw me? Like, that\u2019s literally how you saw me.\u201d<\/p>\n
When he began sending her videos of gifts his students had given him, she said it reminded her of herself at that age. \u201cThat shit just felt so gross and icky,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
She said she then directly asked him to account for his past behavior. \u201cI was just like, \u2018Are you sorry about anything you ever did to me? Like, that did f*ck me up in a way. Like, that actually did f*ck me up. Like, I was really, really young. I don\u2019t think that I should have been exposed to that,\u201d she recounted.<\/p>\n
Salmon said he apologized in writing, and she still retains screenshots of those messages. She then consulted another teacher about what to do.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was like, \u2018I don\u2019t know what I should do. Like, should I say something? Should I not? Like, he is sorry,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd that\u2019s whenever she said she had reported.\u201d<\/p>\n
The school\u2019s response left Salmon feeling dismissed. \u201cHe\u2019s got to resign, not even get fired, but it\u2019s whatever,\u201d she said. \u201cIt felt like nothing happened. It felt like nobody cared about this.\u201d<\/p>\n
Salmon said she briefly considered legal action but believes the statute of limitations has likely passed. \u201cI don\u2019t even think I could do anything,\u201d she said. \u201cI did want to do something cause the school never did anything. And that shit really freaked me out.\u201d<\/p>\n
She said her parents were supportive but largely unaware of the full scope of what had occurred. \u201cI couldn\u2019t even go into detail with my parents about what happened,\u201d she said. \u201cThey literally didn\u2019t know anything. Back then, even when things were wrong, I would go home, pretend I was fine.\u201d<\/p>\n
Salmon also said the experience drove her toward alcohol as a coping mechanism. \u201cThat\u2019s also what got me to drink a lot more during that time, because I did not want to deal with any of it,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
She said she still struggles to fully process the experience. \u201cI don\u2019t know how to deal with any of this. Like, I still I\u2019m like, trying to process this because it\u2019s like, actually did kind of f*ck me up a little bit,\u201d she said. \u201cLike, I just can\u2019t deal with it. Like, even whenever I\u2019m trying to think about it right now, I feel like I just can\u2019t even process it in my head.\u201d<\/p>\n
Despite her frustration, Salmon said she has tried to make peace with the outcome. \u201cI do forgive him and stuff like that, but at the same time it\u2019s just like, why wasn\u2019t this shit taken seriously when I brought it up?\u201d she said. \u201cI literally didn\u2019t want to speak up, and I had told him I didn\u2019t want to speak up if nothing was gonna happen. That\u2019s honestly how it felt.\u201d<\/p>\n
She said she hopes accountability will come eventually. \u201cOne day he\u2019s gonna, I don\u2019t know, I guess pay for it,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
