On a recent evening in Los Angeles, the star of the campy new thriller Forbidden Fruits <\/em>stepped out in a custom-made tank top that read, \u201cI support a mans right to shut the fuck up.\u201d (Sure, it could have used a possessive apostrophe in \u201cman\u2019s,\u201d but otherwise: perfection.)<\/p>\n

The tank was not a one-off. Reinhart wore a pink baby tee blaring \u201cThis b*tch needs a personal day\u201d on her Instagram Stories, along with a $65 I Am Gia tank<\/a> to a Forbidden Fruits <\/em>screening that teased, \u201cImagine dating me. It won\u2019t happen, but just imagine.\u201d In a selfie she took at the supermarket, Reinhart wore a vintage Cher hoodie asking, \u201cDo you believe in life after love?\u201d Another f-bomb came courtesy of this dainty $62 pointelle tee<\/a>. And last night, Reinhart got her co-stars\u2014Lola Tung, Victoria Pedretti, and Alexandra Shipp\u2014in on the act with tees that said \u201cApple,\u201d \u201cPumpkin,\u201d \u201cCherry,\u201d and \u201cFig,\u201d referencing the juicy names of their on-screen characters.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s up with the graphic content? Well, ever since Reinhart shot to fame on Riverdale <\/em>in 2017, she\u2019s been hounded by paparazzi and tabloid sites about everything from her weight to her relationship status. She has over 24 million Instagram followers, which is roughly the population of Australia. And if a slogan tee is worth a thousand TikTok posts, this form of \u201cmethod dressing\u201d lets the clothes talk for <\/em>her, ensuring nothing Reinhart says is misunderstood, misquoted, or missing from various red carpet roundups.<\/p>\n

Reinhart\u2019s cool, canny strategy is playing out with help from stylist Ib Abdel Nasser. But Forbidden Fruits <\/em>costume designer Sarah Millman tells ELLE that the 29-year-old actress and Personal Day founder has been plotting this for some time. \u201cShe\u2019d had a Pinterest board for her character for three years, and there were graphic tees all over it,\u201d Millman says.<\/p>\n

One of those tees even plays a pivotal role in the movie, which hit theaters<\/a> on March 27. Of course, we can\u2019t say how <\/em>without risking the wrath of Reinhart herself\u2014and as she\u2019s proven with this press tour\u2019s epic looks, she\u2019s not afraid to talk back.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
