Winnipeg pop artist Begonia won Alternative Album of the Year for Fantasy Life, a record she says reflects both personal growth and creative freedom.<\/p>\n
The Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra also took home their first-ever Juno for Jazz Album of the Year. The orchestra, a cornerstone of Winnipeg\u2019s music scene for nearly three decades, focused on developing local talent and creating original work that stands out on a national and now international stage.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s been a sense of discovery of what we in Winnipeg and Manitoba can offer the rest of the world because we don\u2019t need to play the same things that other people play in other cities. We need to do things that are unique to us. And once you start looking, there is a whole bunch of things that are unique to us,\u201d said Richard Gillis, the artistic director of the Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
