The series will launch with Turner Prize-winning artist Mark Leckey in June.<\/p>\n<p>Visual and performing artists have been combining their artforms for centuries. Since the latter half of the 20<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0century the relationship between music and art in contemporary culture has become increasingly intwined. Artists across genres\u00a0are\u00a0inspiring each other, breaking\u00a0boundaries\u00a0and experimenting with their practices.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Originally from the Wirral,\u00a0Mark Leckey\u00a0returns to his roots in leading the curation of three nights of performances, drawing on his love of musical subcultures, sound systems, and collective experiences of sound.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Mark Leckey | Credit: Alessandro Raimondo<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The series opens at Tate Liverpool with an evening of conversation as Mark discusses the influence of music culture on his art.\u00a0The event\u00a0will be hosted by DJ, curator and multidisciplinary cultural producer Thristian, the founder of Global Roots, and co-founder of both Boiler Room and Worldwide FM.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The live programme\u00a0at Future Yard\u00a0features a line-up that spans national figures and local innovators.\u00a0Many of the acts are multidisciplinary artists who trace a strong northern narrative through their music, expressed through hypnotic layering of electronic beats and\u00a0sound collages\u00a0that are both\u00a0intimate and expansive.<\/p>\n<p>Expect a mix of DJ sets, artists\u00a0performing to visuals in real time\u00a0and acts that will create\u00a0a shared, immersive experience\u00a0including\u00a0Aya,\u00a0Richie Culver,\u00a0Rainy\u00a0Miller\u202fand\u00a0Moolakii\u00a0Club Audio Interface, as well as a DJ set from Mark Leckey.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Mark Leckey (born 1964) is a British contemporary artist whose work looks at the relationship between popular culture and technology as well as themes of youth,\u00a0class\u00a0and nostalgia. He works with sculpture, film, sound and performance\u2060 \u2013 and sometimes all four at once \u2013 often using found object art in video pieces.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Music, in particular rave and pop, is central to some of Lecky\u2019s best-known works, including\u00a0Fiorucci Made Me Hardcore, 1999;\u00a0Industrial Light and Magic, 2008; and\u00a0Dream English Kid, 1964 \u2013 1999 AD\u00a02015. His work\u00a0Exorcism of the\u00a0Bridge at Eastham\u00a0Rake\u00a02018 has been performed at New York\u2019s MoMA PS1 and Tate Modern. Lecky is also a member of several bands including Jack 2 Jack and\u00a0donAteller.<\/p>\n<p>The collaboration between Future Yard and Tate Liverpool\u00a0strengthens the cultural offer across the Liverpool City Region\u00a0with\u00a0two\u00a0organisations from\u00a0across the Mersey joining for this series of events. The multidisciplinary approach blends the worlds of music and art in an\u00a0innovative\u00a0and\u00a0creative\u00a0way that\u00a0audiences will find exciting and reinforces the\u00a0region\u2019s\u00a0status as a Cultural Capital.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Selector\u00a0with Mark Leckey will begin with a Meet the Artist at Tate Liverpool + RIBA North on Wednesday 10 June from 18.30 \u2013 20.00, followed by three nights of performances at Future Yard from 11 June to 13 June 19.00 \u2013 midnight.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-shaun-curtis-head-of-learning-nbsp-tate-nbsp-liverpool-said\">Shaun Curtis, Head of Learning,\u00a0Tate\u00a0Liverpool, said:<\/h4>\n<p>\u201cTate Liverpool is delighted to be collaborating with Future Yard on this programme, continuing Tate\u2019s long tradition of boundary-pushing projects that bring contemporary visual art and music together.
