Liz Lawrence<\/a> has shared her grief about her late sister on new album, \u2018Vespers\u2019, and has this week (March 30), unveiled the project\u2019s emotive first single \u2018Black Ulysses\u2019 along with three other new songs \u2013 listen to them below.<\/p>\n A statement describes \u2018Vespers\u2019 as an album \u201cabout tragedy.\u201d It continues: \u201cIt is the record of a life and death, an act of devotion and reflection. Liz wrote the songs in the ashes of disaster.\u201d<\/p>\n The record is set for release on June 5 via Chrysalis Records and is the fifth album by Liz, following \u2018Peanuts\u2019, \u2018The Avalanche\u2019, \u2018Pity Party\u2019 and \u2018Bedroom Hero\u2019. You can pre-order the album here<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n The album explores the journey Lawrence went on after discovering, in the summer of 2024 while at a festival, that her sister Jessie had suffered a serious accident in Ireland. A call informed her that her sister was in intensive care and Lawrence and her brother should fly out immediately. Jessie later died, aged 35.<\/p>\n \u201cWhat followed was the most profoundly altering period of my life,\u201d Lawrence explains. \u201cI learned about the beauty of the dying, the resilience of the living and the infinite fountain of love that sustains us.\u201d<\/p>\n Speaking about the record, Lawrence says: \u201cIt is dedicated to my beautiful sister Jessie and her too-short life.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n \u2018Vespers\u2019 was written over a period of three weeks, just six months after Jessie died. \u201cIf you want to understand the change in me, from the person who made \u2018Peanuts\u2019 to the person who wrote \u2018Vespers\u2019, then this is it. Grief changes you. I don\u2019t recognise the person I was before,\u201d Lawrence says.<\/p>\n Four songs from the album have been released by Lawrence, designed to be listened together as \u201can entry point\u201d to the forthcoming album.
