You might be sick of shoegaze. I wouldn’t blame you. Here at Stereogum, we probably get emails about new shoegaze bands with baffling streaming numbers every single day, and many of them immediately fade into the mists of my memory. But that’s not going to happen with Oklahoma City’s Mad Honey, who just announced their new LP Bridge Over Cumberland<\/em>. They’ve got two new songs, which are so dazed and gauzy and lovely that I feel compelled to tell you to give them a shot. <\/p>\n Mad Honey are new to me, but they’re not new. (The band seems to have nothing to do with Mudhoney.) Mad Honey have been putting out music since 2018, and their swanky 2019 track “Blue & You<\/a>” is one of those songs that randomly went viral and racked up millions of streams. Their debut album Satellite Aphrodite<\/a><\/em> came out in 2023. This spring, they’ll follow it with a new one called Bridge Over Cumberland<\/em>, and they’ve announced it by sharing two tracks, “Reaching” and “Marie’s Song.” <\/p>\n “Reaching” is a soft and detached chug, but “Marie’s Song” is the one that really convinced me to post this one. It’s a soft, longing slowcore lullaby with some absolutely shattering vocals from bandleader Tuff Sutcliffe. (Great name.)
