A special preview episode will launch on April 16, with the full series launching from June 4.<\/p>\n<p>The press release for the series reads: \u201cAcross the season, host Rico Gagliano explores iconic musical moments that have shaped pop culture, from British pop and house, to bhangra and electronic dance in Gurinda Chada\u2019s <em>Bend It Like Beckham<\/em>, to the ska and punk soundtrack of Shane Meadows\u2019 <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/shane-meadows\"><em>This Is England<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGuests this season include <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/jack-o-connell\">Jack O\u2019Connell<\/a> (<em>This Is England<\/em>, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/films\/sinners\"><em>Sinners<\/em><\/a>), and Gurinder Chadha (<em>Bend It Like Beckham<\/em>), alongside some of cinema\u2019s greatest music supervisors, with further names to be announced.<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"Spotify Embed: NEEDLE ON THE RECORD | Official Playlist\" style=\"border-radius: 12px\" width=\"100%\" height=\"352\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"\" allow=\"autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; fullscreen; picture-in-picture\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/embed\/playlist\/0uIBJacysoxg2zbKB7LUhn?si=XtTIpOfEQ9q5prKrFJ8wvQ&amp;utm_source=oembed\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The preview episode, released April 16, spotlights <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/brands\/studio-ghibli\">Studio Ghibli<\/a> classic <em>Whisper Of The Heart<\/em>, in particular its use of the John Denver song \u2018Take Me Home, Country Roads\u2019. The episode features interviews with the film\u2019s producer, and Studio Ghibli co-founder, Toshio Suzuki.<\/p>\n<p>Standout episodes from the previous <em>Needle On The Record<\/em> season will be released throughout May, including those dedicated to <em>Chungking Express<\/em>, <em>Donnie Darko<\/em>, and <em>2001: A Space Odyssey<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>All previous episodes of the MUBI Podcast can be listened to <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/mubi.buzzsprout.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>, or via your preferred streaming platform.<\/p>\n<p>The podcast is an offshoot of MUBI, the arthouse cinema streaming service which offers a curated selection of films for subscribers every month. The service also produces films, including the forthcoming <em>Father Mother Sister Brother<\/em> starring Cate Blanchett.
