KNEECAP<\/a> have released their new single, ‘Fenian’, the latest track to be shared off their forthcoming album of the same name, due May 1.<\/p>\nThe track celebrates Irish identity and the reclaiming of a historically offensive slur. Described by the Belfast trio as an attempt to “cure our colonial hangover”, the song links Irish folklore, modern-day republicanism and working-class defiance and acts as a political manifesto against silencing attempts.<\/p>\n
‘Fenian’ arrives alongside a music video shot in West Belfast and directed by Thomas James.<\/p>\n
“For me, this track is about a reclaiming of identity. Not only for the word but also for people too,” says James on the inspiration behind the visual.<\/p>\n
“A trippy whirlwind through people and places who embody the spirit of the boys and the song. Of seeing the word ‘Fenian’ through a new lens. It was a blast. It was chaos. It was a fever dream of running around Ireland convincing people to pop a bally on and do something mental. Good times had by all.”<\/p>\n
Fenian<\/em> will feature collaborations with Lankum’s Radie Peat on ‘Cocaine Hill’ and West Bank-based rapper Fawzi on ‘Palestine’.<\/p>\nThe 14-track album was produced by Fontaines D.C. and Black Midi collaborator Dan Carey.<\/p>\n
