Several fresh releases from local artists sprung up in March, including a nostalgic emo debut, freeform jazz and an unexpected comeback from a Denver black-metal supergroup (horns!).<\/p>\n<p>These are our favorite picks from Colorado musicians this month:<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-spotify wp-block-embed-spotify wp-embed-aspect-21-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe title=\"Spotify Embed: Devoted Heart\" style=\"border-radius: 12px\" width=\"100%\" height=\"352\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"\" allow=\"autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; fullscreen; picture-in-picture\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/embed\/album\/1wYUHyBQOEZnLDTzX7onPy?si=kdsaQLzyS22EysuOVPx57w&amp;utm_source=oembed\"><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p><strong>Bobby Wiens<\/strong><br \/><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/artist\/1ytxPJIwksOW6aacjbahmv?si=XdCkMeBwT1C7N0hbyXmmbA\"><em>Focus<\/em><\/a><br \/>Denver jazz drummer and band leader <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bobbywiens.com\/\">Bobby Wiens<\/a> shows off his freeform flow on his sophomore album,<em> Focus<\/em>, released via Denver\u2019s <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mfpcolorado.com\/\">Mighty Fine Productions<\/a> on March 31.<\/p>\n<p>Wiens, known for his rock-solid groove and natural feels, teamed up with trumpeter Gabe Mervine, pianist-keys player Tom Amend and bassist Seth Lewis to put together twelve original tracks of modern jazz that sounds both familiar and fresh. Songs \u201cHat Trick\u201d and \u201cDevoted Heart\u201d will have you tapping your feet and snapping your fingers, cool cat.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-spotify wp-block-embed-spotify wp-embed-aspect-21-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe title=\"Spotify Embed: If I'm Running Away...\" style=\"border-radius: 12px\" width=\"100%\" height=\"352\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"\" allow=\"autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; fullscreen; picture-in-picture\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/embed\/album\/0oGN9E5FFRv2tveNGirmWU?si=fdDF9C3jQCGRUgEgUSpN5A&amp;utm_source=oembed\"><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p><strong>Color Me Fatigued<\/strong><br \/><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/album\/0oGN9E5FFRv2tveNGirmWU?si=fdDF9C3jQCGRUgEgUSpN5A\"><em>If I\u2019m Running Away\u2026<\/em><\/a><br \/>Fort Collins emo trio <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/colormefatigued.com\/\">Color Me Fatigued<\/a> pushed out its debut album, <em>If I\u2019m Running Away\u2026<\/em>, independently on March 6, and other than having a cute cat on the cover, it rips. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Vocalist-guitarist April Crews, bassist John Zook and drummer Jacob Godbey share an affinity for that late \u201990s\/early 2000s hardcore emo era, and pack jagged hooks, noodly riffs and heartbreak sing-alongs into nine tracks. Opener <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/track\/3ugCZpiyN7vonHfRRttikQ?si=61809687dbcf4bea\">\u201cNuisance\u201d<\/a> goes left, then right, then solo! While <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/track\/3njeeIsVblmFITImyUgF35?si=645000c7e7694e6f\">\u201c17 Again\u201d<\/a> and <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/track\/4vPGuILvU25PHpgGjGPGug?si=8fac2f2579e34368\">\u201cEscape Plans\u201d<\/a> are modern-day MySpace theme songs, you know, like the ones you\u2019d only chose if you were passively trying to get your crush\u2019s attention 3.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-spotify wp-block-embed-spotify wp-embed-aspect-21-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe title=\"Spotify Embed: Nearest Dusk\" style=\"border-radius: 12px\" width=\"100%\" height=\"352\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"\" allow=\"autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; fullscreen; picture-in-picture\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/embed\/album\/5YoOqy71vYWBp6ToFj1zO2?si=mZ7gsBhrQXSzhQGmcx1rig&amp;utm_source=oembed\"><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p><strong>Insipidus<\/strong><br \/><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/album\/5YoOqy71vYWBp6ToFj1zO2?si=mZ7gsBhrQXSzhQGmcx1rig\"><em>Nearest Dusk<\/em><\/a><br \/>Denver metallers <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/insipidus\/\">Insipidus<\/a> dropped ita proper debut, <em>Nearest Dark<\/em>, independently on March 5.<\/p>\n<p>Vocalist-guitarist Yoav Daube, drummer Travis Hatley and Kane Pascarelli have certainly made a name for themselves recently, as the three-piece is up to play just about anywhere, which is why <em>Westword<\/em> tapped Insipidus the city\u2019s <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.westword.com\/best-of-denver\/2026\/music-and-venues\/best-busking-metal-band-40861296\/\">Best Busking Metal Band<\/a> of 2026.<\/p>\n<p>On <em>Nearest Dark<\/em>, the death-prog power trio puts on a shredding showcase with polished renditions of previously released tracks <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/track\/0um5Fvs668E908b7XCh72a?si=015c7a30f40d4fc5\">\u201cImpossible Choice,\u201d<\/a> <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/track\/4P8hAa7fsMdJNuI4A82v0A?si=01fdfae2b6024e4d\">\u201cTodesmarsch (Kanada)\u201d<\/a> and <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/track\/1g3sXpvipRY9nq80UegV7i?si=660f84756ec84cdc\">\u201cRed Sand,\u201d<\/a> first included on its <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/album\/6kFybKsMT8aaG1pjshBnut?si=NwqP5IvhQw-iIJ_2zcRszQ\">2024<\/a> and <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/album\/5yXH24tjMxb0EpWnJffAII?si=117GGJufSNiUvV9za5fm_g\">2021<\/a> EPs. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>New additions such as opener <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/track\/3BNchaW79QJzOQqUyBdqkX?si=8f3360ccbe384c59\">\u201cA hill of ash\u201d<\/a> and <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/track\/7AOcJha6JhlW4LEb3olf3z?si=99077f4f9cb944a7\">\u201cSuffer\u201d<\/a> see Insipidus explore melodic technicality in a way that\u2019s reminiscent of the late Death era (think <em>Symbolic <\/em>and<em> Sounds of Perseverance<\/em>). A graduate of Denver School of the Arts, Karma, 22, has been performing since she was a teenager, including at the Fillmore Auditorium for Dr. Jill Biden, National Western Stock Show and Buell Theatre with Kristin Chenoweth. Now, she\u2019s looking to breakout. With a new album, <em>run, rabbit<\/em>, on the way this summer, the group shared lead single, \u201cSomething\u2019s Burning,\u201d independently on March 3.<\/p>\n<p>Vocalist-guitarist Rafael Nava, bassist Joseph Szlanic and drummer Ben Zickau explore the singe of modern burnout as a DIY band oftentimes burning the candles at both ends.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhere love, ambition and self-worth blur into the same uneasy fire,\u201d shadow work shares. \u201cDrifting through long drives, sleepless nights and inherited expectations, the lyrics question whether success and connection truly save us, or quietly hollow us out. Spoiler: He defeats the nemesis by the third track, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/track\/1SqfzqrvihENX4zsK7oKIo?si=515cd8bdf28c4261\">\u201cAs The Dragon Falls,\u201d<\/a> featuring former Rhapsody of Fire frontman <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fabio-lione.com\/\">Fabio Lione<\/a>. But it\u2019s what follows that that makes <em>Becoming the Dragon<\/em> such a mind-bending metal journey for the child of prophecy.<\/p>\n<p>Siege Perilous brought in operatic singer <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.kristinstarkey.com\/\">Kristin Starkey<\/a> (Temperance and Twilight Force) for somber ballad <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/track\/4zOYQkjt4zC0y5olO67j48?si=6e4cd4aab99c4684\">\u201cEchoes of Home.\u201d<\/a> Vocalist Shaughnessy McDaniel, bassist Eric Fischer, drummer Mark Girard, and guitarists Scott Hancock and Ryan Flanagan rally the hordes on <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/track\/7fwuIaS8LsnQVlfBsZbqWa?si=458e0e6012694808\">\u201cChieftain\u201d<\/a> and <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/track\/5RAUk8eDGQfz60XHMXx0f6?si=f84f30c57ed64236\">\u201cEschaton,\u201d<\/a> but <em>Becoming the Dragon<\/em> is best experienced in one shot. \u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-spotify wp-block-embed-spotify wp-embed-aspect-21-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe title=\"Spotify Embed: Carnal Tapestries of Nailtorn Flesh\" style=\"border-radius: 12px\" width=\"100%\" height=\"152\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"\" allow=\"autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; fullscreen; picture-in-picture\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/embed\/track\/7wY64j7dRq5baOmxUFtUxX?si=ba366d72619b4699&amp;utm_source=oembed\"><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p><strong>Stormkeep<\/strong><br \/><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/track\/7wY64j7dRq5baOmxUFtUxX?si=add59fd850a349a3\">\u201cCarnal Tapestries of Nailtorn Flesh\u201d<\/a><br \/><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/orderofthedivinelight\/\">Stormkeep<\/a> announced its back and working on new music with the surprise release of single \u201cCarnal Tapestries of Nailtorn Flesh\u201d on March 18 via German label <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/vesperian.world\/\">Vesperian<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The black-metal side project of members from <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/wayfarercolorado\/\">Wayfarer<\/a> and <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloodincantation.org\/\">Blood Incantation<\/a>, this corpsepainted Denver supergroup hasn\u2019t been very active since its 2021 debut, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/album\/0iW7kFUgskdOQYrZjnK3Pw?si=5BkwxKb9SAqGkPptKOT04g\"><em>Tales of Othertime<\/em><\/a>, made a splash in dungeons across the scene, and understandably so, as both of the aforementioned local bands have been busy cementing themselves as international metal acts the past five years.<\/p>\n<p>Stormkeep lives in the synth-heavy symphonic side of extreme music first occupied by acts such as Emperor and Dimmu Borgir, and the latest track honors that sinister Nordic spirit.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-spotify wp-block-embed-spotify wp-embed-aspect-21-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe title=\"Spotify Embed: WRATH MADE FLESH\" style=\"border-radius: 12px\" width=\"100%\" height=\"352\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"\" allow=\"autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; fullscreen; picture-in-picture\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/embed\/album\/3FDbCtYMDu9NwYtHXrqxQn?si=nd6qpdY5TKC-sIt3z2IM4g&amp;utm_source=oembed\"><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p><strong>Tainted Blade<\/strong><br \/><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/album\/3FDbCtYMDu9NwYtHXrqxQn?si=nd6qpdY5TKC-sIt3z2IM4g\"><em>WRATH MADE FLESH<\/em><\/a><br \/>A new sound emerged from the underground, as <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/taintedbladeco\/\">Tainted Blade<\/a> released EP <em>WRATH MADE FLESH<\/em> independently on March 27.<\/p>\n<p>The brainchild of vocalist-guitarist Rory Rummings, who recruited his former Tricoma bandmates Riley Rukavina (drums) and Matt Ross (bass) back in 2024, Tainted Blade plays a sludgy style of death metal that\u2019s gross in all the right ways.<\/p>\n<p>Kicking off with the crust-coated <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/track\/0OogCfQAaB2Ov1JJeVaM3e?si=860fe24e288d4cf8\">\u201cINHERIT THE SAVAGERY,\u201d<\/a> <em>WRATH MADE FLESH<\/em> (all caps, all the time) drags you into the mud, while <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/track\/4O1ASZkxaFohpBoYB5QhEP?si=a7d54f9e4c3143f5\">\u201cWILL OF IRON\u201d<\/a> and <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/track\/3s8bnecKcLa08t90HrfiHt?si=aa0f79d8ae68411d\">\u201cTHE CROWN OF BLASPHEMY\u201d<\/a> are more mid-tempo swamp stompers.
