Details are starting to emerge like flowers from bulbs for this year’s Tulip Festival in Albany.<\/p>\n
Events officially kick off on Friday, May 8 with street scrubbing on State and Lodge streets, in honor of the city’s Dutch heritage.<\/p>\n
The Mendellsohn Club of Albany, a Capital Region choir with more than 100 years of history, will perform at the 518 Stage to open for the Tulip Court Procession. The crowning of this year’s Tulip Queen, and the announcement of their court, will take place at noon at the Washington Park Lakehouse Stage.<\/p>\n
For music, indie rockers Joywave will headline the Saturday mainstage at this year’s Tulip Fest, radio station WEQX<\/a> announced on its Facebook page Wednesday. Sharing the stage with the trio that hails from Rochester is Grace Bowers, the 18-year-old blues-rocker from Nashville, and\u00a0E-Block, the Rotterdam-based rock group.<\/p>\n Yoga Fest will also return to Washington Park on Sunday. The free outdoor yoga session at 9 a.m. does require registration. More information can be found at thehotyogaspot.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n In addition to the proliferation of tulips around Washington Park and Albany’s Dutch beginnings, the event also celebrates moms and\u00a0maternal caregivers, as it takes place Mother’s Day weekend each year.
