Nursing influencer Hailey Okula’s husband, Matt, is honoring his late wife one year after her death<\/a> at age 33.<\/p>\n On March 29, 2025, Hailey died after going into cardiac arrest following an amniotic fluid embolism<\/a> \u2014\u00a0described by the National Library of Medicine<\/a> as a rare pregnancy complication caused by \u201camniotic fluid, fetal cells, hair, or other debris\u201d entering the \u201cmaternal pulmonary circulation, causing cardiovascular collapse\u201d \u2014\u00a0hours after giving birth to their son, Crew.<\/p>\n \u201cI knew it would be bittersweet celebrating Crew\u2019s birthday while also remembering and reflecting on the day we lost Hailey,\u201d Matt tells PEOPLE a year later. \u201cThere have been a lot of bittersweet moments over this past year, and March 29 was a big one.\u201d<\/p>\n Still, Matt maintains that \u201cjoy and grief can coexist\u201d \u2014\u00a0and that he\u2019s come to understand \u201cthat may be the case for quite some time. I\u2019ve accepted that and I\u2019m okay with it.\u201d<\/p>\n
