Kansas City Royals rookie catcher Carter Jensen created a commotion in his team’s clubhouse Thursday after he failed to arrive on time for their game against the Minnesota Twins because he overslept.<\/p>\n

Vinnie Pasquantino said the Royals were concerned about Jensen’s whereabouts when he didn’t arrive at the clubhouse on time.<\/p>\n

“First and foremost, we’re glad Carter’s OK. That was the initial thought when we tried to get a hold of his parents.” Pasquantino said, according to McKenzie Nelson of KSHB 41 News<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“Once we found out he was OK, we’re like ‘Alright, it’s a growing moment.’ He’s really young, there are some things that cannot happen and that’s one of them. He’s going to have to wear it on the chin the same way anyone would have to. It can’t happen.”<\/p>\n

Jensen was scratched from the starting lineup and owned up to his mistake following the Royals’ 5-1 loss.<\/p>\n

“I didn’t wake up to my alarm. Slept through it,” Jensen said, according to Sam McDowell of The Kansas City Star<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“Don’t really have an excuse – nor should I. It sucks. It happens. I feel like I let teammates down, coaches down. Just learn from it and just know it won’t happen again.”<\/p>\n

Jensen, who is one of the early AL Rookie of the Year hopefuls, was replaced in the starting lineup by 36-year-old Salvador Perez, who was originally preparing to DH. Jensen entered the game in the ninth inning as a defensive replacement for Perez.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
