He had initially been in the Royals\u2019 starting lineup, but he was scratched minutes before first pitch.<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cYeah, Carter had an oversight,\u201d Royals manager Matt Quatraro said. \u201cOverslept and wasn\u2019t here on time. And we made the decision to scratch him from the lineup.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>The Royals <a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.kansascity.com\/sports\/mlb\/kansas-city-royals\/article315279430.html\">lost 5-1 to the Twins<\/a>. Jensen did make an appearance \u2014 catching in the ninth inning \u2014 but he didn\u2019t get an at-bat.<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>Afterward, Jensen expressed remorse for his actions.<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cYeah, I mean, no running from it,\u201d he said. \u201cJust didn\u2019t wake up to my alarm, slept through it. Don\u2019t really have an excuse, nor should I. You know, it sucks and it happens. I felt let my teammates down and coaches down. I\u2019ll just learn from it and know it won\u2019t happen again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>Before his late arrival, the Royals had Jensen slated to catch starter Cole Ragans. He was going to bat fifth in the lineup. Fellow KC catcher Salvador Perez \u2014 who caught Wednesday\u2019s late-night marathon \u2014 was going to be Thursday\u2019s designated hitter.<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cNot a good feeling, for sure,\u201d Jensen said. \u201cYou know, just wake up and full panic. Just tried to get out of the house and get here as soon as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>Jensen extended his apologies to teammates and the Royals\u2019 coaching staff once he got to the stadium. He went up to each individually, upset with himself and vowing to not make the same mistake again.<\/p>\n<p><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was tough just kind of owning up to it and apologizing to guys as I see them,\u201d Jensen said. \u201cObviously, I knew I wasn\u2019t going to play. And I just tried to let the starters get their routine &#8230; and try not to make it about me, because at the end of the day, it\u2019s not about me. It\u2019s my mistake &#8230;\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>The Royals have <a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.kansascity.com\/sports\/mlb\/kansas-city-royals\/article315272690.html\">lauded Jensen\u2019s work ethic<\/a> already this season. He has shown a commitment to learning and growing and teammates have been impressed with his leadership skills at such a young age.<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>Several of those teammates said Jensen\u2019s tardiness Thursday won\u2019t affect how they view him.<\/p>\n<p><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cFirst and foremost, we are glad that Carter is OK, right?\u201d first baseman Vinnie Pasquantino said. \u201cI mean, that was kind of the initial thought, when you are trying to get ahold of his parents and everything like that just to make sure he is OK. But once you find out he\u2019s OK, it\u2019s like, \u2018Alright, it\u2019s a growing moment.\u2019<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s really young and there are some things that cannot happen, and that\u2019s one of them. So he\u2019s going to have to wear it on the chin, the same way anybody would have to.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>Pasquantino said he knows Jensen feels \u201creally bad\u201d about the situation.<\/p>\n<p><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know it was not his favorite drive to the field this morning,\u201d Pasquantino said, \u201cbut it wasn\u2019t our favorite morning either, trying to figure out what was going on. So, you know, he\u2019ll learn from it and grow up a little bit. &#8230; It\u2019s not like anyone is mad at him. Things happen, but you\u2019ve got to learn from mistakes like that, and maybe get another alarm clock or something at home.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>Jensen seems to have received the message loud and clear. He said he would recalibrate his wake-up routine.<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s a lot to learn from,\u201d Jensen said. \u201cAnd I think it\u2019s just, you know, making sure if I don\u2019t set one alarm, maybe set three or four \u2014 as many as possible. So moving forward, that\u2019s what I\u2019m going to do.
