Jen Shah<\/strong> <\/a>reached out \u201cprivately\u201d to Mary Cosby<\/strong><\/a> to send her condolences after her son Robert Cosby Jr.<\/strong> died.<\/a><\/p>\n

In a clip from her People<\/em> interview that was posted via Instagram<\/a> on Thursday, April 2, Shah, 52, said she reached out to her former Real Housewives of Salt Lake City<\/em> costar, 53, following the tragic news.<\/p>\n

\u201cI did reach out to Mary. I privately reached out to Mary because I felt like that was the respectful thing to do,\u201d Shah told the outlet. \u201c I sent her a card, you know, and just told her how deeply sorry that I was to hear about the passing of Robert Jr.\u201d<\/p>\n

Shah added that she told Mary that \u201cshe\u2019s in my family\u2019s prayers every day\u201d after hearing the news.<\/p>\n

\u201cEven though, you know, I hadn\u2019t talked to her for, obviously, a few years while I\u2019ve been gone that I care about her, especially with right now, you know, what she\u2019s going through,\u201d Shah added.\u00a0 \u201cI chose to reach out privately because I didn\u2019t want it to be a distraction if I were to do it publicly.<\/p>\n

Shah added that she was concerned that the focus might shift to be on her response to the news rather than the loss itself.<\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t want it to become about me responding. I wanted it to remain about what Mary was going through<\/a> and about her son and honoring his memory,\u201d Shah explained.<\/p>\n

Us Weekly<\/em> confirmed on February 25, that Robert Jr. died at age 23 following a suspected overdose in his parents\u2019 Utah home.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur beloved son Robert Jr. has been called home to the Lord,\u201d Mary shared in a statement to Us<\/em>. \u201cThough our hearts ache, we take comfort in God\u2019s promise and in knowing he is finally at peace. We are grateful for your prayers and trust in the Lord to carry us through this time of sorrow.\u201d<\/p>\n

Robert Jr.\u2019s addiction battle was featured on RHOSLC<\/em> throughout the past two seasons. Viewers often applauded Mary for her candid approach to opening up about her son\u2019s struggles.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Shah was released from Federal Prison Camp in Bryan, Texas, on December 10, 2025.<\/p>\n

Upon her release, Judge Sidney Stein<\/strong> also ordered Shah to serve five years of supervised release \u201cto make sure you don\u2019t end up committing another crime.\u201d<\/p>\n
