Actor Charlie Day<\/a> illustrated a basic tenet for most comedians while promoting his newest film, \u201cThe Super Mario Galaxy Movie\u201d<\/a>: When someone offers the perfect setup for a joke, you take it.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n And \u2015 spoiler alert \u2014 this one was dark.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Day provides the voice of Italian plumber Luigi in the film series and was asked about his favorite Luigi during an interview posted Wednesday by the \u201cTintoria\u201d podcast<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cI have a question for you, Charlie \u2014 you play Luigi, a great Italian guy,\u201d the interviewer began. \u201cWho\u2019s your favorite Luigi in recent American history?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Day didn\u2019t expect the question, but obliged the interviewer.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cIn recent American history?!\u201d Day asked with laughter, seeming to understand the subtext of the question.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n His first response was a shameless movie plug, sure to please executives at Nintendo, the owner of the Super Mario Bros. gaming franchise, and Universal Pictures, the film\u2019s distributor.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cAh, well, me, first of all. Number one,\u201d he answered.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n But, as mentioned above, sometimes comedians have to take the bait \u2015 no matter how dark \u2014 and Day\u2019s next response was a doozy.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
