In true Brian Cox fashion<\/a>, the Scottish actor unleashed a no-holds-barred takedown of President Donald Trump and the patriarchy in a new interview.<\/p>\n The 79-year-old Succession<\/em> star is not one to mince his words<\/a> \u2014 and he certainly did not hold back when speaking to The Times of London<\/em> <\/a>to promote his directorial debut, Glenrothan<\/em>.<\/p>\n Criticizing what he called the \u201cinvasive\u201d and \u201cinsidious\u201d patriarchy in the United States, Cox argued that more women should be in political power.<\/p>\n \u201cI think it\u2019s an economic thing. In America they don\u2019t like women. They won\u2019t let a woman be president<\/a>, not in the foreseeable future,\u201d he said, citing Hillary Clinton\u2019s 2016 presidential loss <\/a>to Trump.<\/p>\n \u201cThe patriarchy is so invasive and so insidious, it\u2019s hard to throw it off. I think the patriarchy is a f***ing mess, and it\u2019s the patriarchy that got us into the position that we\u2019re in at the moment, and we don\u2019t learn the lessons,\u201d Cox continued. \u201cI say, give it over to the women.\u201d<\/p>\n Brian Cox is well-known for speaking his mind (AP)<\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n Turning his attention to Trump, Cox declared that the president \u201cdoesn\u2019t give a s*** about the people. He\u2019s only interested in the oil.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThere\u2019s just sheer f***ing greed motivating him, nothing else. The idea he\u2019s liberating people is a nonsense. And it\u2019s that greed that sort of permeates through society,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n The Independent <\/em>has contacted the White House for comment.<\/p>\n Cox is well-known for speaking his mind. On numerous occasions, he has offered critical assessments of several former collaborators, including 25th Hour<\/em> co-star Edward Norton, whom he once labeled \u201ca pain in the arse\u201d; Iron Will<\/em> co-star Kevin Spacey, whom he has called \u201ca stupid, stupid man\u201d; and King Lear<\/em> co-star Ian McKellen, whose acting he has said is \u201cnot to my taste.\u201d<\/p>\n Asked by The Times<\/em> whether his bluntness has ever cost him friendships or caused problems, Cox laughed: \u201cWell, I don\u2019t know yet if it\u2019s caused me problems. I mean, my wife keeps saying, \u2018Brian, be careful. Brian, be careful.\u2019 I think, \u2018F*** it, I don\u2019t want to be careful any more! I\u2019ll be 80 this year. F*** it! I\u2019m gonna say what I want to say.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
