The producers of Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette <\/em>have responded to Daryl Hannah\u2019s criticism over the show\u2019s portrayal of her. The Splash<\/em> star stated in an op-ed published in The New York Times<\/em><\/a> on March 6, that her character on the FX show has been reduced to a villainized \u201cobstacle,\u201d calling the series guilty of \u201ctextbook misogyny.\u201d Hannah went on to say her portrayal on Love Story<\/em> is \u201cnot even a remotely accurate representation of my life.\u201d<\/p>\n In response to Hannah\u2019s criticism, Love Story<\/em> producer Brad Simpson defended the series. \u201cFrom the beginning, this was going to be John and Carolyn\u2019s story, and we put a lot of research and rigor into all the people and moments in the series that ultimately shaped their relationship,\u201d Simpson revealed to Variety<\/a> <\/em>on March 27.<\/p>\n The producer then emphasized the amount of research that was put into the show, saying, \u201cWe read a lot of biographies and journalistic accounts. Anytime you\u2019re dealing with characters that are based on real people, there are big emotions and sensibilities. I think it\u2019s tough for anybody to see themselves represented.\u201d<\/p>\n Furthermore, Simpson said the intention was to \u201ccelebrate\u201d all the characters on the FX series, including Hannah\u2019s. \u201cWe love our characters,\u201d he explained. \u201cWe know this is a real tragedy that affected real people. Obsess.<\/a><\/p>\n A season 2 for Love Story <\/em>has yet to be confirmed, though series creator Connor Hines revealed in a March 23 interview with Vanity Fair<\/em><\/a> that he already has ideas for a second season.
