Maren Wade, a Las Vegas performer, is suing Taylor Swift for trademark infringement. Wade claims that \u201cThe Life of a Showgirl\u201d album and its merch are too similar to the brand that she\u2019s cultivated over the last 12 years.<\/p>\n
In 2014, Wade used \u201cConfessions of a Showgirl\u201d as the name of a column in Las Vegas Weekly<\/em>. Obsess.<\/a><\/p>\n Wade trademarked \u201cConfessions of a Showgirl\u201d in 2015, and is accusing Swift of using a similar title to target the same fans in the same market. She\u2019s worried Swift\u2019s large commercial presence<\/a> is hurting her and that fans will start to mistake her brand as an imitation of the singer\u2019s brand.<\/p>\n Jaymie Parkinnen, a lawyer for Wade, issued a statement<\/a> that said, \u201cA solo performer who spent twelve years building a brand shouldn\u2019t have to watch it disappear because someone bigger came along.\u201d<\/p>\n Wade is suing Swift for damages and wants to stop her from using \u201cThe Life of a Showgirl\u201d on goods and services in the future. According to TMZ<\/em><\/a>, in the court documents, \u201cWade takes a shot at Taylor, too, saying the pop star has no issues enforcing her own trademarks.\u201d<\/p>\n Although Wade has filed a lawsuit against Swift, she appears to be a fan of the singer. Multiple posts on her Instagram page use Swift\u2019s songs and hashtags in between posts promoting her show, which is also titled \u2018Confessions of a Showgirl.\u2019<\/p>\n Her official website<\/a> advertises the show as a \u201cfunny touching tale of this unique life.\u201d It also says: \u201cBased on the hit Las Vegas Weekly<\/em> column, \u2018Confessions of a Showgirl\u2019 is jumping off the page to the stage!
