{"id":2359093,"date":"2026-04-05T06:34:31","date_gmt":"2026-04-05T06:34:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/?p=2359093"},"modified":"2026-04-05T06:34:31","modified_gmt":"2026-04-05T06:34:31","slug":"see-360-degree-views-of-american-revolution-at-hnoc-exhibit-entertainment-life","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/see-360-degree-views-of-american-revolution-at-hnoc-exhibit-entertainment-life\/","title":{"rendered":"See 360-degree views of American Revolution at HNOC exhibit | Entertainment\/Life"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div data-breakout=\"1\" style=\"position:relative;\">\n<div class=\"col-md-8\">\n<p>The HistoPads are back at the Historic New Orleans Collection \u2014 hand-held tablets that act as a portal to 360-degree views of the sites and events depicted in \u201cAmerican Revolution: The Augmented Exhibition,\u201d a touring exhibit making its world premiere in the French Quarter.<\/p>\n<p>A product of the Paris-based Histovery technology company, the tech and its immersive storytelling will feel familiar to anyone who visited the exhibit \u201cNotre-Dame de Paris,\u201d which HNOC hosted in 2022-23.<\/p>\n<p>In the new exhibit, visitors trigger each chapter at pedestals positioned in front of wall-sized images of key landmarks and moments of the insurrectionists\u2019 story, from colonial Virginia to Boston to Philadelphia to Yorktown and all the way to the Gulf Coast, where Spanish Gov. Bernardo de G\u00e1lvez directed a multicultural militia of free men of color, Acadians, Indigenous volunteers and Spanish regulars to a series of victories against the British.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div data-breakout=\"2\" style=\"position:relative;\">\n<div class=\"col-md-8\">\n<p>(The battlin\u2019 governor is having a French Quarter moment. For completists and G\u00e1lvez fanboys and fangirls, the Cabildo, just a few steps away toward Jackson Square, is concurrently playing host to the new exhibit <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nola.com\/entertainment_life\/galvez-exhibit-cabildo\/article_81a65476-e68e-4ca0-bb73-f3975abb7ba7.html\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cG\u00e1lvez and Louisiana in the American Revolution.\u201d<\/a>)<\/p>\n<h3>Localizing the story<\/h3>\n<p>The G\u00e1lvez chapter of \u201cAmerican Revolution\u201d was HNOC\u2019s contribution to a yearslong collaborative process with Histovery that followed the successful \u201cNotre-Dame\u201d exhibit.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey reached out to us \u2026 asking if we would be interested in possibly hosting a new project they were developing then about the American Revolution,\u201d said Jason Wiese, HNOC\u2019s chief curator, during a recent walk-through of the exhibit. \u201c&#8230; They sent us their prospectus, and we read through it and we pointed out, \u2018Hey, there&#8217;s no mention of Bernardo de G\u00e1lvez or the experiences of the Gulf South during the Revolutionary War period.\u2019 And they said, \u2018Well, we don&#8217;t know anything about that. What&#8217;s that about?\u2019<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div data-breakout=\"3\" style=\"position:relative;\">\n<div class=\"col-md-8\">\n<p>\u201cSo, to their credit, they asked us if we would be willing to work with them to develop an additional chapter of the exhibition devoted to G\u00e1lvez and the people of Louisiana.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For the Histovery project, Wiese teamed with Kathleen DuVal, a Pulitzer Prize-winning historian and author of &#8220;Independence Lost: Lives on the Edge of the American Revolution,&#8221; which \u201creally focuses on the margins of the Revolutionary War, particularly related to the Gulf Coast,\u201d Wiese said. \u201cPeople of color, women, Indigenous people\u00a0\u2014 so really taking an interesting perspective.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A couple of HNOC holdings make their way into the G\u00e1lvez chapter because of the collaboration, including a portrait of G\u00e1lvez and a patent of nobility awarded to him by Spain\u2019s Charles III (which completists will recognize as the cover image for the catalog that accompanied the 2022-23 HNOC exhibit \u201cSpanish New Orleans and the Caribbean\u201d).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div data-breakout=\"4\" style=\"position:relative;\">\n<div class=\"col-md-8\">\n<p>And so, HNOC\u2019s storytelling expertise and collection items augment the augmented exhibition that will tour through 2031 and touch all 50 U.S. states.<\/p>\n<h3>The visitor experience<\/h3>\n<p>Admission is free, but timed tickets are required to ensure everybody has enough space to spin through the chapters. Tap touchpoints inside each scene to leap to character profiles, close-ups of objects of interest, fly-through animations and slider-style controls that show period views of landmarks and how they appear today.<\/p>\n<p>The tablet text is offered in English, Spanish, French and German. For younger visitors, a virtual scavenger hunt for period objects is embedded in many of the chapters.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think each chapter is just kind of a little world unto itself, and they&#8217;re all connected,\u201d Wiese said. \u201cIt&#8217;s a sequence that&#8217;s more or less chronological. It&#8217;s not absolutely necessary that you visit everything in order. You can explore it however you wish.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div data-breakout=\"5\" style=\"position:relative;\">\n<div class=\"col-md-8\">\n<p>The HistoPad can be hard to put down. And the story\u2019s plenty compelling, too.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of our Visitor Services staff was telling me that a couple was in the exhibit this morning,\u201d Wiese said. \u201cThe husband stayed in here for two hours. The wife was just sitting out there, bored out of her mind. She went to the shop. She went to see some other exhibits, but he was in here for two hours.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u201cAmerican Revolution: The Augmented Exhibition\u201d will be at the HNOC\u00a0through Jan. 17, 2027.<\/p>\n<h3>Museum calendar<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>At 6:30 p.m. Tuesday (April 7), the National WWII Museum will host a Dinner with a Curator event, \u201cIllustrating Freedom: Norman Rockwell and the American Ideal.\u201d More: <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalww2museum.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">nationalww2museum.org<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>A Gallier Gathering at 6 p.m. Wednesday (April 8) will feature Louisiana Poet Laureate Gina Ferrara presenting \u201cHere and Someplace Else,\u201d an exploration of place through poetry.
