She\u2019d been battling lung cancer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn behalf of her family, it is with deepest sadness that we share this update with you.\u00a0 Dee passed away peacefully on April 2, 2026 after a brave and fearless fight with cancer.\u00a0 Thank you to everyone who supported Dee during her battle.\u00a0 It blew her away to know how many people cared about her and were pulling for her.\u00a0 We know Dee is up there in heaven being the force of nature she always was.\u00a0 Now she\u2019s doing it with her angel wings on.\u00a0 Rest in peace, Dee,\u201d the caption read of her in a photo smiling with a royal blue blouse on.<\/p>\n<p>Several tributes poured in from celebrity friends and admirers. \u201cMs. Dee was a force and so lovely to work with. Her debut was during a 1995 episode of the ABC sitcom, <em>Coach<\/em>, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2026\/04\/dee-freeman-dies-66-1236773430\/\"><em>Deadline<\/em> <\/a>reported. Other credits include guest roles in <em>Seinfeld<\/em>, <em>Rude Awakening<\/em>,<em> ER<\/em>, <em>The Hughleys<\/em>, <em>The X-Files<\/em>, <em>Dexter<\/em>, <em>3rd Rock from the Sun<\/em>, <em>Do Us Part<\/em>, <em>Shameless<\/em> and <em>NCIS: Los Angeles<\/em>. She also appeared in a 2022 episode of the TV series <em>Reasonable Doubt<\/em> before her last credit in a January episode of <em>Tyler Perry\u2019s Sistas<\/em> on BET.<\/p>\n<p>Freeman is survived by her two children, Amber and Shane. After her passing, her publicist Desirae L. Benson also released a statement, saying in part: \u201cEven in the face of stage 4 lung cancer, she showed up with courage and dignity.
