Sydney Sweeney should be the next James Bond<\/a>, a Hollywood director has said.<\/p>\n Paul Feig, who worked with the American actress on the psychological thriller The Housemaid, said Sweeney would make a great replacement for Daniel Craig as 007.<\/p>\n Asked about Sweeney becoming a Bond girl in the franchise\u2019s next installment, Feig said: \u201cI\u2019d rather Sydney be the next Bond. There have been some cool Bond girls, but come on, let her be the super-spy, she\u2019s great.<\/p>\n \u201cShe\u2019s one of the hardest-working people I know \u2013 so professional, so smart, so savvy. I think she\u2019d be a good spy.\u201d<\/p>\n Sweeney, 28, spoke about her interest in the Bond series last year after the franchise was bought by Amazon<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ve always been a huge fan and I\u2019m excited and curious to see what they do with it,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n Asked whether she would consider playing a Bond girl, she said she would have \u201cmore fun as James Bond\u201d.<\/p>\n Bond fans are unlikely to view Sweeney as a suitable successor<\/a> to Craig given that Ian Fleming depicted the character as a lean 6ft male with \u201cjet-black hair\u201d.<\/p>\n Actors Aaron Taylor-Johnson, \u00adHenry Cavill, Theo James and James Norton have all been touted as potential successors<\/a>.<\/p>\n However, Amazon\u2019s takeover has triggered concerns that Jeff Bezos could seek to Americanise the franchise, and the idea of a female Bond has also been mooted.<\/p>\n Last year, Pierce Brosnan warned against casting an American to play the British spy.<\/p>\n The actor, who played 007 between 1997 and 2002<\/a>, told The Telegraph that he \u201clamented\u201d the Amazon takeover, saying long-time custodians Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson showed \u201cgreat courage\u201d in handing creative control to the US firm<\/a> after more than 30 years.<\/p>\n The Bond films were launched by Albert \u201cCubby\u201d Broccoli in 1962 before his daughter and stepson took over.<\/p>\n Craig quit the role in 2021 after he finished filming No Time to Die. Denis Villeneuve, the director of Dune, will direct the next Bond film, which will be written by Steven Knight, who also wrote the series Peaky Blinders.<\/p>\n
