Even after building a decades-long career in entertainment, Academy Award-winning actress Jamie Lee Curtis<\/a> doesn\u2019t consider herself \u201cpretty.\u201d<\/p>\n The Freakier Friday<\/em><\/a> star was a guest on the Wednesday (April 1) episode of Michelle Obama<\/a> and Craig Robinson\u2019s IMO<\/em><\/a> podcast, where Curtis revealed how she feels about her looks.<\/p>\n Around the 47-minute mark of the video below, Curtis discussed the \u201cfakery\u201d of beauty in Hollywood, calling the \u201ccosmeceutical industrial complex\u201d a \u201ccycle of bullshit.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cIt preys on our base insecurities,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd for many people, it\u2019s what they look like.<\/p>\n COMPLEX SHOP:<\/b> Shop the brands you love, anytime and anywhere. Uncover what’s next. Buy. Collect. Obsess.<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cNow, I’ve never been pretty. And I’m saying it out loud,\u201d Curtis continued. \u201cI wasn\u2019t pretty like that. I was cute. I can look good. I can fully look good, but that was not my ticket.\u201d<\/p>\n The actress shared that while she\u2019s \u201cnever relied\u201d on her looks, she has previously gone under the knife.<\/p>\n \u201cI’ve sucked the fat, I’ve cut the fat. I’ve tried to do the things that people do that everybody’s doing, and it doesn’t work,\u201d she explained. \u201cIt doesn’t, first of all, because the self-esteem issue, because you ultimately are looking in the mirror and realizing you’ve used something outside of yourself to change something to make you, quote, better.\u201d<\/p>\n She added that cosmetic surgery doesn\u2019t change the person, only their looks.<\/p>\n \u201cI think it actually makes you feel fraudulent, and I think that it creates self-hatred,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n Curtis has since leaned on \u201cself-love.\u201d She noted her 2002 children\u2019s book, I’m Gonna Like Me: Letting Off a Little Self-Esteem<\/em>.<\/p>\n Last year, Curtis spoke to The Guardian<\/em><\/a> about her stance against plastic surgery and warned that it\u2019s a \u201cnever-ending cycle.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThe minute I lay a filter on and you see the before and after, it\u2019s hard not to go: \u2018Oh, well that looks better.\u2019 But what\u2019s better?
