Lil Nas X<\/strong><\/a> was diagnosed with bipolar disorder after his battery arrest last year.<\/p>\n

A Los Angeles judge revealed the news during a court hearing on Monday, April 6, while granting the \u201cOld Town Road\u201d rapper entry into a mental health diversion program, according to Rolling Stone<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Judge Alan Schneider<\/strong> reportedly also agreed to dismiss the case if Lil Nas X (real name Montero Lamar Hill) continues treatment and does not break any more laws in the next two years.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen treated, he is much better off, and society is much better off,\u201d the judge said, adding that the two-time Grammy winner \u201cappears to be doing very well\u201d so far.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tFans of Lil Nas X were left puzzled and looking for answers after the rapper was arrested in the early hours of August 21, 2025. The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed the rapper was taken into custody after he attempted to \u201cbatter an officer.\u201d He has since been charged with four felonies. Schneider also shared his belief that the incident that led to Lil Nas X\u2019s arrest was \u201caberrant from his normal conduct\u201d and directly linked to his bipolar disorder, which the Mayo Clinic<\/a> defines as \u201ca mental health condition that causes extreme mood swings.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lil Nas X\u2019s defense lawyer, Christy O\u2019Connor<\/strong>, told the court on Monday that the \u201cIndustry Baby\u201d rapper had voluntarily checked himself into the Meadows treatment center<\/a> in Arizona after his arrest last summer and received nearly two months of \u201cabsolutely successful\u201d inpatient care<\/a>, according to Rolling Stone<\/em>.<\/p>\n

O\u2019Connor added that Lil Nas X now follows a \u201cpretty rigorous mental health regimen\u201d that includes weekly psychotherapist sessions as well as appointments with a psychiatrist every three months.<\/p>\n

The \u201cPanini\u201d rapper told reporters outside the courthouse on Monday that he was \u201cvery thankful\u201d for the judge\u2019s decision, noting, \u201cIt could have been much worse.\u201d (He faced up to five years in prison if convicted.)<\/p>\n
