This year, the group performs a number of Irish premieres including\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/journalofmusic.com\/subject\/ailis-ni-riain\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Ail\u00eds N\u00ed R\u00edain<\/a>\u2019s\u00a0<em>and still it breathes<\/em>, which the ensemble commissioned and recently premiered in Tallinn and Riga. They will also perform works by Berlin-based New York composer Jessie Marino and Greek composer Georges\u00a0Aperghis.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span>On Friday 17 April, National Symphony Orchestra Ireland under conductor J\u00e9r\u00f4me Kuhn will present a concert performance of\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/journalofmusic.com\/subject\/gerald-barry\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Gerald Barry<\/a>\u2019s new opera\u00a0<em>Salome<\/em>\u00a0(2025). Featuring soprano Alison Scherzer and Amy N\u00ed Fhearraigh, the work was premiered by Theatre Magdeburg last year and described as \u2018a riot\u2019 by\u00a0<em><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.opera-now.com\/content\/reviews\/gerald-barry-salome-at-theater-magdeburg-live-review\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Opera Now<\/a><\/em>, \u2018its sheer absurdist energy drawing you completely into its\u00a0world.\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/journalofmusic.com\/subject\/donnacha-dennehy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Donnacha Dennehy<\/a>\u2019s Grammy Award-winning\u00a0<em>Land of Winter<\/em>\u00a0will be performed by Crash Ensemble at the <span class=\"caps\">NCH<\/span> on Saturday 18 April. The twelve-movement work, which received two Grammy nominations and won Best Chamber Music\/Small Ensemble Performance award for the recording by Alarm Will Sound, explores Ireland\u2019s seasons. Speaking to\u00a0<em>The Journal of Music in Ireland<\/em>\u00a0this month about the work and the Grammy, Dennehy\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/journalofmusic.com\/opinion\/was-furthest-thing-my-mind-when-i-was-writing-piece-interview-donnacha-dennehy-about-his-0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">said<\/a>\u00a0the work explores\u00a0<\/span><span>\u2018the way the light delineates the year in Ireland\u2019.\u00a0<em>Land of Winter<\/em>\u00a0is part of a double bill, with Caoimh\u00edn \u00d3 Raghallaigh and Se\u00e1n Mac Erlaine performing music from their new album\u00a0<em><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/journalofmusic.com\/reviews\/time-winding-road-0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Old Segotia<\/a><\/em>\u00a0in the first\u00a0half.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\n<div class=\"jeg_video_container jeg_video_content\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Se\u00e1n Mac Erlaine &amp; Caoimh\u00edn \u00d3 Raghallaigh | Cantantor\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/FVHYXMnvglc?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span>On Sunday, Crash will perform the world premiere of a work by Ivor Novello-winning composer Hannah Kendall, titled\u00a0<em>Building a Burning Hous<\/em>e, alongside works by Tansy Davies, David Fennessy and Jonathan\u00a0Nangle.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span>Also on Sunday, the <span class=\"caps\">RT\u00c9<\/span> Concert Orchestra under Gavin Maloney will present two world premieres:\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/journalofmusic.com\/subject\/jane-oleary\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Jane O\u2019Leary<\/a>\u2019s\u00a0<em>Fanfare: From <span class=\"caps\">2RN<\/span> to <span class=\"caps\">RT\u00c9<\/span> \u2013 Celebrating 100 Years<\/em>, which celebrates the centenary of the national broadcaster, and\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/journalofmusic.com\/subject\/kevin-oconnell\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Kevin O\u2019Connell<\/a>\u2019s\u00a0<em>Paradiso<\/em>, a Dante-inspired work for soprano (Aoife Miskelly), baritone (Se\u00e1n Boylan), chorus (New Dublin Voices) and\u00a0orchestra.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span>Hard Rain SoloistEnsemble return to the festival on Friday 17 April to perform Anthony Braxton\u2019s improvisatory\u00a0<em>Ghost Trance Music<\/em>\u00a0as well as a new work by Ioana Petcu-Colan and Sarah Watts\u2019\u00a0<em>Multiphonic Miniatures<\/em>. The ensemble will be directed by Brian\u00a0Irvine.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span>The Diatribe record label will host four concerts during the festival at the Project Arts Centre, including Patrick Zimmerli\u2019s contemporary opera\u00a0<em>Lucia Joyce<\/em>; a concert featuring works by violist and composer Garth Knox; the launch of improvisers Insufficient Funs\u2019 debut album\u00a0<em>Chunk<\/em>; and the European debut of Strider, the duo of violist Joanna Mattrey and artist Steven\u00a0Long.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><em><span>Strider \u2013\u00a0<em>Steven\u00a0Long and\u00a0<\/em>Joanna\u00a0Mattrey\u00a0(Photo: Lenny\u00a0Gonzalez)<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span><strong>Nadar Ensemble<\/strong><br \/>On Thursday 16 April, the festival will feature the Nadar Ensemble from Belgium, who were a highlight of the Music Current festival in 2023 and 2024, described in the\u00a0<em>Journal of Music in Ireland<\/em>\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/journalofmusic.com\/reviews\/importance-ensembles-new-music-scene\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">review<\/a>\u00a0as \u2018dazzling audiences\u2026 with a highly theatrical programme\u2019. The group will perform Irish premieres by Eveline Vervliet, Paul Scully, Nina Fukuoka and Matthew\u00a0Grouse.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span>Other highlights of the festival include Het Collectief performing Morton Feldman, marking the centenary of the composer; Canadian ensemble Soundstreams performing Claude Vivier, Nicole Liz\u00e9e, Thierry Tidrow and Ana Sokolovi\u0107; Chamber Choir Ireland with works by\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/journalofmusic.com\/subject\/jennifer-walshe\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Jennifer Walshe<\/a>, Ben Nobuto and Cecilie Ore; Gare St Lazare Ireland performing Marcel Mihalovici\u2019s chamber opera\u00a0<em>The Last Tape<\/em>, arranged by Andrew Synnott and featuring British tenor Mark Padmore;\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/journalofmusic.com\/subject\/sam-perkin\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Sam Perkin<\/a>\u2019s \u2018hybrid symphony\u2019\u00a0<em>Children in the Universe<\/em>; <span class=\"caps\">NCH<\/span> C\u00f3r na n\u00d3g with an environment-inspired concert; and the networking event <span class=\"caps\">NMDX<\/span> organised by the Contemporary Music\u00a0Centre.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span>Commenting on this year\u2019s festival, Festival Director John Harris\u00a0said:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span>New Music Dublin has always presented the best of Irish new music to an international\u00a0<\/span><span>audience \u2013 and the best of international work to an Irish audience.
