Live With Kelly and Mark<\/a><\/em> emcee D\u00e9j\u00e0 Vu<\/a> opened up to viewers about her recent health struggles.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve got to talk to our very own D\u00e9j\u00e0 Vu. We love her so much,\u201d Kelly Ripa<\/a> said during the show\u2019s Tuesday, April 7, episode. \u201cFor those of you who don\u2019t know, if you don\u2019t follow D\u00e9j\u00e0, she\u2019s been dealing with a medical condition.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ripa asked D\u00e9j\u00e0 if she could share an update on her health. D\u00e9j\u00e0, who was sporting a face mask, explained, \u201cWhen we were out at the Oscars<\/a>, I was hit with a bout of Bell\u2019s palsy. So, it\u2019s facial paralysis, and it kind of droops to the side a little. It\u2019s not drooping as much now, but I\u2019m still speaking to the side. So, the right side of my face has, kind of, like, paralyzed.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to the Mayo Clinic<\/a>, Bell\u2019s palsy \u201ccauses sudden weakness in the muscles on one side of the face.\u201d The exact cause is unknown, but the condition is \u201cshort-term and improves over weeks.\u201d<\/p>\n

D\u00e9j\u00e0 said the paralyzed side of her face has begun to experience \u201clittle movement,\u201d while the other has been \u201cpushed to the side.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Live<\/em> audience applauded D\u00e9j\u00e0 as the hosts sang her praises. \u201cSo sorry, D\u00e9j\u00e0,\u201d Mark Consuelos<\/a> said, while Ripa added, \u201cI feel for you. You\u2019re such a trooper.\u201d<\/p>\n

D\u00e9j\u00e0 noted that her Bell\u2019s palsy \u201cisn\u2019t as bad as some that I\u2019ve seen online.\u201d She continued, \u201cI\u2019m not in a lot of pain. It\u2019s just more inconvenience. So, all things considered, it\u2019s not that bad. And I\u2019ve got to shout out to my listeners and to the Live<\/em> family of viewers. Everybody\u2019s been in my inbox with encouraging words and just giving me examples of things that may have happened to them, and just suggestions. Everybody\u2019s just been so supportive.\u201d<\/p>\n

As for what treatments she\u2019s receiving for the condition? \u201cFirst, they give you, like, prednisone or a steroid shot and an antiviral to get your cranial nerve to go down, \u2019cause it\u2019s inflamed,\u201d D\u00e9j\u00e0 shared. \u201cAnd then, now, I\u2019m doing just more holistic, kind of, [treatments], like facial massages. I\u2019m doing acupuncture. Again, you have to go and see an ophthalmologist as well, because it impacts your eye as well.\u201d<\/p>\n

D\u00e9j\u00e0 remains optimistic about her recovery, saying she hopes \u201cit will wrap up soon.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ripa recalled learning about D\u00e9j\u00e0\u2019s diagnosis via text from Live<\/em> executive producer Michael Gelman<\/a> shortly before they filmed Live<\/em>\u2018s After the Oscars show last month. \u201cAny time you get a text message from Gelman at, like, three in the morning, saying, \u2018Are you up?\u2019 It\u2019s never a good sign,\u201d she joked. \u201cAnd he\u2019s like, \u2018I\u2019ve got to talk to you about something.\u2019 And I was like, \u2018What have I done?’\u201d<\/p>\n

Addressing D\u00e9j\u00e0, Ripa stated, \u201cYou are hanging in there, and I know it probably doesn\u2019t feel comfortable for you, but you\u2019re such a pro.\u201d<\/p>\n

Consuelos wrapped up the conversation by telling D\u00e9j\u00e0, \u201cThrough all this, you\u2019re gonna be helping a lot of people going through the journey with yourself.\u201d<\/p>\n
