The 76-year-old actress has enjoyed huge success in her career, starring in movies such as The Deer Hunter, Kramer vs. Kramer, and The Devil Wears Prada – but Meryl admits that fame and success in the film business are precarious.<\/p>\n
Speaking to Vogue magazine, Meryl explained: “Tom Stoppard said, ‘You\u2019ve got to shift your weight.’ You\u2019re always, always on unstable ground. It\u2019s so uncertain being an actor. You\u2019re chronically unemployed. And then there\u2019s no sort of climb, because fame is something you have in a second. <\/p>\n
“But to make a body of work and have faith in yourself? That takes time, and you can\u2019t do it at home by yourself\u2014it\u2019s not like writing or composing. I don\u2019t think: I love this job. I\u2019m going to have this job for a long time. I think: This is the world. The unstable world. Everything changes and it\u2019s about learning to sort of be prepared for that.”<\/p>\n
Meryl stars in the Devil Wears Prada sequel, and she’s admitted to being impressed by the film’s script.<\/p>\n
\nThe actress – who plays Miranda Priestly, a magazine editor, in the new film – said: “I was interested in the business part of it, that thing of carrying the weight of many, many people\u2019s jobs, running a big organisation, keeping it going somehow. <\/p>\n
\n“With this one, I thought, ‘Well, where are they going to go?’ Now that everything\u2019s disintegrating, now that these institutions are being undermined or exploded in a way that who knows what is happening in the world right now\u2014I wondered what they were going to do. And I do think they\u2019ve located something true about the business now.”<\/p>\n
\nMeanwhile, Selena Gomez previously admitted to feeling inspired by Meryl Streep.<\/p>\n
\nThe 33-year-old actress heaped praise on her Only Murders in the Building co-star.<\/p>\n
\nSelena told The Hollywood Reporter: “She\u2019s an inspiration, and she\u2019s someone who is incredibly talented while being very humble, and professional and kind. I\u2019ve learned so much from her just by her being Meryl.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
