BBC<\/a>, the UK government decided to block West\u2019s entry into the country amid backlash over his planned performance at this summer\u2019s London festival due ot his past antisemitic rhetoric and actions. <\/p>\nIn a statement, the Wireless Festival organizers confirmed the news. \u201cThe Home Office has withdrawn YE\u2019s ETA, denying him entry into the United Kingdom,\u201d the statement reads. \u201cAs a result, Wireless Festival is cancelled and refunds will be issued to all ticket holders.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cAs with every Wireless Festival, multiple stakeholders were consulted in advance of booking YE,\u201d the organizers said. \u201cAnd no concerns were highlighted at the time.\u201d<\/p>\n
In addition to announcing the news, the organizers addressed the backlash over West\u2019s past. <\/p>\n
\u201cAntisemitism in all its forms is abhorrent, and we recognize the real and personal impact these issues have had,\u201d the statement continued. \u201cAs YE said today, he acknowledges that words alone are not enough, and in spite of this still hopes to be given the opportunity to begin a conversation with the Jewish community in the UK.\u201d <\/p>\n
The Home Office confirmed that West did submit an application to travel to the UK via the Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA). It refused permission on the grounds that his presence \u201cwould not be conducive to the public good.\u201d <\/p>\n
West also issued a statement about the government\u2019s decision. He said he \u201cwould be grateful\u201d to meet members of the Jewish community in the UK. <\/p>\n

Campaign Against Antisemitism Commends the UK Government\u2019s Actions <\/h2>\n
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Campaign Against Antisemitism spoke out about the UK government\u2019s actions against West. <\/p>\n
\u201cThe government has clearly made the right decision here,\u201d the spokesperson said. \u201cFor once, when it said that antisemitism has no place in the UK, it backed up its words with action.\u201d<\/p>\n
The spokesperson pointed out West\u2019s past antisemitic antics. \u201cSomeone who has boasted of making tens of millions of dollars from selling swastika T-shirts and who released a song called Heil Hitler just months ago clearly would not be conducive to the public good in the UK.\u201d <\/p>\n
\u201cWireless Festival, in its desperate quest for profit, defended the invitation until the end,\u201d the spokesperson added. \u201cThat was shameful, and it\u2019s sponsors should continue to say away.\u201d <\/p>\n<\/div>\n
