MEMPHIS, Tenn. \u2014 A new outdoor music venue on the Memphis riverfront will officially open this month with concerts by national artists and a free grand opening party.<\/p>\n

Grind City Amp<\/a> is a 4,500-seat, open-air venue at Grind City Brewing, 75 Waterworks Ave. in the Uptown neighborhood north of downtown Memphis.<\/p>\n

The first concert is set for April 22 with soul-rock group Alabama Shakes<\/strong>. Tickets are still available.<\/p>\n

Opening week will continue with a free, all-ages grand opening party on April 25 featuring MonoNeon<\/strong>, Memphis-born bluesman Eric Gales <\/strong>(fresh off an Oscars performance tied to the award-winning film Sinners<\/em>), along with Cedric Burnside<\/strong>, Joybomb<\/strong>, Raneem Imam<\/strong>, and Frank McLallen & Extra Eyes<\/strong>, promoters said in a news release. The mini-fest will also feature local food trucks, vendors, and a short ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the official opening of the space.<\/p>\n

Chicago alt-rock superstars Wilco<\/strong> will play Grind City on July 7, with Grind City Fest returning and more concerts coming later in the year.<\/p>\n

The new venue is a joint effort between Grind City Brewing and Nick Barbian, veteran concert promoter and founder of Barbian Entertainment who came to Memphis by way of Wisconsin, London and Austin.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe amp\u2019s launch marks a broader effort to strengthen Memphis\u2019 live music ecosystem by increasing access to world-class performances for locals while attracting national touring acts and visitors to the city,\u201d promoters said. \u201cIn addition to serving as a new entertainment hub in Uptown Memphis, Grind City Amp is positioned to support the continued growth of Memphis\u2019 music economy and provide a new home for large-scale outdoor programming in the region.\u201d<\/p>\n

Grind City Amp plans to host 12-15 concerts a year once the venue is fully open.<\/p>\n
