PUTNEY \u2014\u00a0Students participating in The Grammar School rendition of \u201cA Comedy of Errors\u201d have been working for weeks to master their lines in this Shakespearean classic that opens Friday night.<\/p>\n
Jessa Rowen, the middle school English and humanities teacher, as well as the theatre director, talked about the importance of students learning and understanding Shakespeare. As part of the school curriculum, students will read Shakespeare’s works, including “Romeo and Juliet.”<\/p>\n
Then, putting it on as a show, she said it is just really fun to make these works come to life.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have a really good time doing it. The characters, this plot line, the story, the mixed identities, it’s just a lot of fun,\u201d said Rown. \u201cI find that seventh and eighth graders can handle the language really well, and it prepares them for high school.\u201d<\/p>\n
This is the second time in the six years at The Grammar School that Rowen has put on a Shakespearean play; the first was \u201cA Midsummer Night’s Dream\u201d two years ago.<\/p>\n
Nola Linde, an eighth grader at the school and an actor in the play, said it’s really important to learn Shakespeare because you get to learn different perspectives.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou have to portray how you’re acting differently because you have this Old English that most people don’t really understand that much. You have to try to act over the top and really make sure they get what you’re saying,\u201d said Linde.<\/p>\n
