Last year, Alabama Shakes<\/a> returned with \u201cAnother Life,\u201d their first original track in 10 years. Now they\u2019ve followed it up with a protest song titled \u201cAmerican Dream.\u201d Brittany Howard<\/a>\u2019s lyrics reference gun violence, abortion rights, climate change, the wage gap, and President Donald J. Trump\u2019s White House renovations. Take a listen below.<\/p>\n

In a press statement, Howard described \u201cAmerican Dream\u201d as \u201ca snapshot of what we\u2019re living through in 2026.\u201d She continued, \u201cI look around and wonder how we got to a place where there\u2019s so much strain and so little support. I mean, it shouldn\u2019t be impossible to take off work so you can bring your child to the doctor\u2014that\u2019s actually insane. My hope is that one day people will hear this song and say, \u2018Yeah, shit was crazy back then, but we made it through.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Alabama Shakes\u2019 last album was 2015\u2019s Sound & Color<\/em><\/a>. Next week, the trio of Howard, Heath Fogg, and Zac Cockrell kick off a North American tour<\/a> that runs through mid-June. They\u2019ll then play shows in Europe and the United Kingdom in July.<\/p>\n
