\u201cI don\u2019t know about fingers-crossed and all, but good thoughts because the heat shield is a little funny, so their angle of entry is a little altered,\u201d Shatner said sitting in the pro-photo booth area of the former Double Tree hotel.<\/p>\n
All eyes were on the capsule\u2019s life-protecting heat shield that had to withstand thousands of degrees during reentry. On the spacecraft\u2019s only other test flight \u2014 in 2022, with no one on board \u2014 the shield\u2019s charred exterior came back looking as pockmarked as the moon.<\/p>\n
The spacecraft successfully splashed down off the coast of San Diego following its 10-day mission.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, back in Monroeville, Shatner is expected to be back at the convention Saturday.<\/p>\n
He said Western Pennsylvania fans treat him very well.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf people come to the Steel City Con, that\u2019s really good treatment,\u201d Shatner said. \u201cI would appreciate good treatment by coming to see me and I\u2019d love to see you. Everything\u2019s good. People are nice.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am a witness to the transition of Pittsburgh. From thick smoke and coal-burning furnaces to its parks and (it\u2019s) beautiful. People come here to live. Not just to work.\u201d<\/p>\n
Other celebrities featured<\/span><\/p>\nShatner is one of many celebrities at the convention. Among them are Roseanne Barr (\u201cRoseanne,\u201d \u201cShe-Devil\u201d), Marcia Gay Harden (\u201cThe Mist,\u201d \u201cMystic River\u201d), Doug Bradley (\u201cHellraiser\u201d) and Jeff Ward (\u201cOne Piece,\u201d \u201cMarvel\u2019s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.\u201d).<\/p>\n
There are also a few celebrity reunions such as Michael Rooker, Sean Gunn and Pom Klementieff of the \u201cGuardians of the Galaxy\u201d franchise and Richard Karn, Patricia Richardson and Debbe Dunning from \u201cHome Improvement.\u201d<\/p>\n
Pro wrestling icons Rob Van Dam, John \u201cBradshaw\u201d Layfied, Mickie James and Candice Michelle are scheduled for Sunday only.<\/p>\n
\u201cI love that people have made it through this tough business to a point where they attract people that want to see them,\u201d Shatner said. \u201cThat\u2019s really lovely and I\u2019m all for it.\u201d<\/p>\n
