{"id":2368206,"date":"2026-04-11T05:44:55","date_gmt":"2026-04-11T05:44:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/?p=2368206"},"modified":"2026-04-11T05:44:55","modified_gmt":"2026-04-11T05:44:55","slug":"tv-talk-cmu-grad-stars-in-the-boys-audacious-audacity-debuts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/tv-talk-cmu-grad-stars-in-the-boys-audacious-audacity-debuts\/","title":{"rendered":"TV Talk: CMU grad stars in \u2018The Boys;\u2019 audacious \u2018Audacity\u2019 debuts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div id=\"article-content\">\n<p>Steel yourselves, TV fans: The flood of shows striving for last-minute Emmy nomination consideration premiere this week to get the bulk of their episodes released before the Emmy eligibility period closes at the end of May.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"neFMT neFMT_body-subhead\">\u2018The Boys\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"neFMT neFMT_brief-text\">In its bleak-but-funny final season, now streaming its first two episodes, Amazon\u2019s Prime Video superhero satire <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=XNQbH1SDPRk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cThe Boys\u201d<\/a> feels more relevant than ever.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"neFMT neFMT_brief-text\">Homelander (Antony Starr) has turned America into a fascist state with dissidents rounded up and interred in \u201cFreedom Camps.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"neFMT neFMT_brief-text\">\u201cOngoing conflict is useful to us,\u201d says Sister Sage, played by 2005 Carnegie Mellon University School of Drama grad Susan Heyward. \u201cIt keeps people afraid.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"neFMT neFMT_brief-text\">In a March virtual interview, Heyward smiled when she heard that bit of dialogue referenced.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.jwplayer.com\/players\/3wr4Wg55-BYFBQ8fE.html\" width=\"100%\" height=\"100%\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"auto\" title=\"'The Boys' stars talk final season\" style=\"position:absolute;\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"neFMT neFMT_brief-text\">\u201cI jumped up for joy and clapped that I got to say it,\u201d Heyward said. \u201c(Showrunner) Eric (Kripke) and the writers are so passionate about holding up a mirror to nature, even if it is a warped, bloody mirror. And it\u2019s true, and I really take it to heart that I have an opportunity to say it out loud. \u2026 And I hope that the audience can sit up. I hope it hits them right in the spine, and gives them an awareness that, yeah, there are so many people out there, so many institutions who are trying to get inside your mind, trying to get inside your peace, especially.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"neFMT neFMT_brief-text\">Heyward acknowledged that while it would be almost impossible for any acting program to prepare an actor for some of the outrageous occurrences that have happened over five seasons of \u201cThe Boys,\u201d CMU did help shape her into the actress she is today.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"neFMT neFMT_brief-text\">\u201cNothing can fully prepare you for this universe at all,\u201d Heyward said. \u201cBut my time at Carnegie Mellon gave me technique. It gave me grounding. It gave me exposure to different acting techniques that I never would have heard of without their investment. It gave me teachers and relationships that I depend on to this day. My time at Carnegie Mellon was essential to the person and the performer I\u2019ve become.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"neFMT neFMT_brief-text\">New episodes of \u201cThe Boys\u201d will continue to stream Wednesdays through the May 20 series finale.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"neFMT neFMT_body-subhead\">\u2018The Audacity\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"neFMT neFMT_brief-text\">Consider <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=ryijrW6nKgA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cThe Audacity\u201d<\/a> Hollywood\u2019s revenge against Big Tech, the Netflixes and Apples and Amazons that disrupted and broke the entertainment industry.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"neFMT neFMT_brief-text\">Premiering Sunday at 10 p.m. on AMC and AMC+, \u201cThe Audacity\u201d is a comedic soap about ill-behaved Silicon Valley denizens, insecure CEOs and the people who hate them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"neFMT neFMT_brief-text\">Data-mining company CEO Duncan Park (Billy Magnussen) is on the verge of a nervous breakdown when a business deal falls apart.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"neFMT neFMT_brief-text\">Duncan takes his worries to paranoid psychologist JoAnne (Sarah Goldberg) who dumps stock in his tech company after Duncan confides in her that the stock is about to tank. While seeing another client (Zach Galifinakis), JoAnne researches gun types instead of paying attention to her client.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"neFMT neFMT_brief-text\">Then there\u2019s Duncan\u2019s wife (Lucy Punch), who\u2019s preoccupied with their daughter\u2019s weight and getting her diagnosed with ADHD to help with the college admissions process along with a $3 million to $4 million donation to Stanford\u2019s endowment fund to grease the skids (\u201cAnything more starts to look like a bribe,\u201d per an admissions consultant).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"neFMT neFMT_brief-text\">\u201cThe Audacity\u201d brings to mind \u201cSuccession\u201d \u2014 \u201cAudacity\u201d creator Jonathan Glatzer wrote on \u201cSuccession\u201d and \u201cBetter Call Saul\u201d \u2014 because both shows feature characters that are deeply flawed in the most darkly humorous ways possible. Already renewed for a second season, \u201cThe Audacity\u201d is a show to keep an eye on.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"neFMT neFMT_body-subhead\">\u2018Big Mistakes\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"neFMT neFMT_brief-text\">Dan Levy co-created and stars in Netflix comedy series <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=tTGeLuCs97Q\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cBig Mistakes,\u201d<\/a> and once again his character has an eccentric family and a wacky sister in tow, which will be a familiar setup for fans of Levy\u2019s \u201cSchitt\u2019s Creek.\u201d Levy is pretty clearly playing to his and his audience\u2019s comfort zone while still trying to create something different enough to pass muster.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"neFMT neFMT_brief-text\">Now streaming its eight-episode first season, \u201cBig Mistakes\u201d follows gay Protestant pastor Nicky (Levy) and his wild child sister Morgan (Taylor Ortega), who find themselves in over their heads after Morgan steals a piece of jewelry for their dying grandmother, which inadvertently gets them caught up in a world of organized crime. Laurie Metcalf (\u201cThe Conners\u201d) plays their demanding mother.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"neFMT neFMT_brief-text\">Fast-paced with escalating stakes, \u201cBig Mistakes\u201d is another half-hour comedic thriller in the same style as Netflix\u2019s \u201cDead to Me\u201d and \u201cGood Girls.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"neFMT neFMT_body-subhead\">Renewed<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"neFMT neFMT_brief-text\">Fox renewed Patrick Dempsey\u2019s <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/triblive.com\/aande\/movies-tv\/tv-talk-patrick-dempsey-murders-his-way-through-alzheimers-in-memory-of-a-killer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cMemory of a Killer\u201d<\/a> for a second season.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"neFMT neFMT_brief-text\">Paramount+ will bring back \u201cCanada Shore\u201d for a second season.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"neFMT neFMT_body-subhead\">Channel surfing<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"neFMT neFMT_brief-text\">Retired KDKA-TV reporter Harold Hayes will be the first speaker in a new series, \u201cIn Greater Context: Media, Messaging and the Mon Valley,\u201d at 3:30 p.m. April 13 in the Ostermayer Room of the Student Community Center at Penn State Greater Allegheny, 4000 University Drive in McKeesport. The event is free and open to the public. \u2026 \u201cThe Pitt\u201d star Katherine LaNasa (aka nurse Dana Evans) will have a recurring role in Hulu\u2019s limited series \u201cCount My Lies\u201d as the mother of a compulsive liar (Shailene Woodley) who fibs her way into a nanny position for parents played by Lindsay Lohan and Kit Harrington.
