KANSAS CITY, Mo. \u2014 White Sox<\/u><\/a> hitters were seeing double Saturday, as they were shut out by the Royals 2-0 for the second consecutive game. They have gone 20 innings without scoring and a week without hitting a home run.<\/p>\n

The hitting drought wasted another solid performance<\/a> from right-hander Erick Fedde<\/b>, who allowed a solo homer to Maikel Garcia<\/b> on his first pitch but yielded only two other hits in five innings. He struck out four and walked one.<\/p>\n

The Sox mustered four hits \u2014 including doubles by Andrew Benintendi<\/b> and Lenyn Sosa<\/b>, as well as rookie infielder Tanner Murray\u2019s<\/b> first career<\/u><\/a> hit \u2014 but couldn\u2019t do anything with them. Royals right-hander Michael Wacha<\/b> breezed through eight innings, striking out seven.<\/p>\n

The Royals added an insurance run when Garcia led off the eighth with a double and scored on a sacrifice fly.<\/p>\n

After some first-week fireworks<\/u><\/a>, the Sox have scored only eight runs in their last six games and their hitters haven\u2019t gone deep since Munetaka Murakami<\/b> did so April 4 against the Blue Jays. Sox hitters have fanned 60 times since then.<\/p>\n

\u2018\u2018A lot of times when you are not getting hits, it feels like you have no energy,\u2019\u2019 manager Will Venable<\/b> said. \u2018\u2018That hasn\u2019t been the case for us. I think the guys are in a good frame of mind. We just have to turn some fastballs around, put some balls in play.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n

Cannon gets call after Davitt\u2019s first draft<\/b><\/h3>\n

Sportswriter-turned-MLB pitcher Duncan Davitt<\/b>, who made his big-league debut in the eighth inning of the Sox\u2019 loss Friday, was sent back to Triple-A Charlotte in exchange for right-hander Jonathan Cannon<\/b>, who is expected to pitch in a bulk role Sunday behind opener<\/a> Grant Taylor<\/b>.<\/p>\n

Outfielder Everson Pereira<\/b> was en route to Charlotte, as well, for a rehab stint in his recovery from a sprained ankle.<\/p>\n

Davitt, who moonlights as a high school sports reporter<\/u><\/a> for a newspaper in Iowa owned by his parents, walked the first batter he faced, then induced a double-play ball from Garcia \u2014 an All-Star last season \u2014 and a flyout from superstar Bobby Witt Jr.<\/b><\/p>\n

\u2018\u2018There\u2019s something to be said about being forged in fire, so if you go through those two guys and manage to come out unscathed, it\u2019s a nice learning experience and an, \u2018OK, I can do this,\u2019 kind of a moment,\u2019\u2019 Davitt said.<\/p>\n

Davitt grew up a Yankees fan but regularly made the three-hour trip from the Des Moines area for games at Kauffman Stadium, where he had plenty of family and friends in attendance for his first outing.<\/p>\n

\u2018\u2018I\u2019m not going to lie, I tried to keep my eyes from going up into the stands, just because it\u2019s a lot bigger venue than most of the places down in the minor leagues,\u2019\u2019 Davitt said. \u2018\u2018But the eyes went up anyway. Sitting in the dugout afterward … seeing the fireworks, it\u2019s a feeling unmatched. You can\u2019t get anything better.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n

He wrote a column for the Indianola Independent Advocate that was published online after his call-up Thursday, but it\u2019ll be awhile before he\u2019s back in print.<\/p>\n

\u2018\u2018I think \u2018missed deadline\u2019 is a good way to put it,\u2019\u2019 Davitt said. \u2018\u2018I\u2019m sure there\u2019s something coming down eventually.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
