So fans on Thursday got their first official glimpse of the newest iteration, which the Royals call \u201c<a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.kansascity.com\/sports\/mlb\/kansas-city-royals\/article315348781.html\">Forever Fountains.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>The reaction was, well, not kind.<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThose uniforms look like clown suits,\u201d one fan wrote in an email to The Star, \u201cnot baseball uniforms.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>Some fans liked the 2.0 City Connect design, which will be worn for the first time Friday night. The uniforms were designed by Nike and MLB in partnership with the Royals.<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m such a huge Royals fan and partial season ticket holder,\u201d a fan named Eric Kolkmeyer wrote on X. \u201cI hate these with every fiber of my being. I own and wear the previous city connect jersey and these are hideous. I guess they are targeting the female audience with these? <a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/erickolkmeyer\/status\/2042259246625001603?s=20\">But I\u2019m a hard pass<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>The fashion-forward color scheme is drawing the most ire.<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>\u201c<a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mlb.com\/news\/royals-release-city-connect-2-0-jerseys\">Featuring a fuchsia gradient into blue,<\/a> the uniform\u2019s color treatment is a nod to the tones of a Midwestern summer sunset and the blue of water flowing through Kansas City\u2019s more than 200 fountains,\u201d according to MLB.com.<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>Those are fashionable wedding hues. Check Pinterest and that combo is considered romantic and luxe, perfect for summer nuptials.<\/p>\n<p><!--]--><!--[--><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>For sports uniforms? There\u2019s a school of psychology behind why teams wear bolder colors on the color wheel \u2014 hues that scream vitality, energy, power and strength.<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>The quirky \u201cdynamic duo\u201d of fuchsia with blue was a top trend on several Spring 2026 runways.<\/p>\n<p><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s a look at some of the other new City Current uniforms players will be wearing around the majors this year. Red on the Texas Rangers. Black and gold with red accents on the Pittsburgh Pirates.<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>A Royals official said privately that the new uniforms would probably be embraced more by female fans.<\/p>\n<p><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>And yet, many women have voiced their displeasure about them.<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, my Mom just sent me a text and <a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/aris3852\/status\/2042299812142305398?s=20\">she hates them<\/a>,\u201d a fan wrote on X. \u201cSo there are some just not liking them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>A fan named Jules wrote: \u201cAnd, just think\u2026<a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/JulesDiner\/status\/2042372270283174293?s=20\">they paid someone<\/a> to create this design.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>\u201c<a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/MarilynHil59143\/status\/2042352126853058782?s=20\">Strongly dislike the colors<\/a>,\u201d wrote Marilyn Hillman on X.<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>When a uniform is completely built from scratch, there are probably going to be elements of it that fans dislike. The colors, for instance, were essentially taken from the City of Kansas City\u2019s official flag.<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>Some fans, however, thought it was a nod to another flag: <a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/VinniePisGOAT\/status\/2042255983997505981?s=20\">the bisexual flag<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>\u201c<a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/kcroyalsfanatic\/status\/2042390512926441547?s=20\">Any other color<\/a> and they could have my money,\u201d one fan wrote on X.<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>Another shared this: \u201c<a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/JoakimSzn2\/status\/2042315796521590840?s=20\">Great design, awful colors.<\/a>\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>Others hated on the helmets.<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cFine with the uniform, like it even,\u201d a fan named Jake Keiser wrote. \u201cThat helmet needs <a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/joshkeiser40\/status\/2042242780857028842?s=20\">another pass<\/a> in conceptual design though.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>Another shared this: \u201cTruly the <a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/KCSportsKingdo1\/status\/2042243629586981174?s=20\">worst helmet<\/a> I\u2019ve ever seen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>Fans also got to show off their creative side on social media with their reaction to the uniforms.
