Thousands of festival goers will descend on the Empire Polo Club in Indio Sunday for the last day of Weekend 1 of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, featuring a wide range of artists across different genres.<\/p>\n
Gates will open at 1 p.m.<\/p>\n
Sunday\u2019s lineup will have Karol G headlining at 9:55 p.m. on the Coachella Stage. Other performing artists will include Young Thug, Wet Leg, Laufey, Roz, Foster The People, Iggy Pop and Fatboy Slim.<\/p>\n\n<\/aside>\nAfter the day\u2019s final performance, a special screening of the season three premiere of \u201cEuphoria\u201d will be presented at about 11:59 p.m. at the campgrounds. The event will mark the festival\u2019s first television show screening. The Season 3 debut of the HBO original drama will be available for festival goers on a first-come, first served basis.<\/p>\n
The series follows a group of high school students navigating relationships, addiction and identity in a visually stylized drama.<\/p>\n
On Saturday, with Justin Bieber headlining, Coachella was dubbed \u201cBieberchella\u201d with some festivalgoers jokingly complaining about being stuck in long lines of traffic awash in \u201cBelieber\u201d pilgrims, as the singer\u2019s fans are known.<\/p>\n\n<\/aside>\nBut some complained that his set was \u201clazy\u201d and relied too heavily on YouTube for what some likened to \u201cYouTube karaoke.\u201d<\/p>\n
Just hours before Bieber took the stage, rising New York indie band Geese performed a cover of his hit \u201cBaby\u201d \u2014 drawing fans to what music critics say could be \u201cthe next big rock band, the act that [c]ould shake the dust off of a stale and fractured genre.\u201d<\/p>\n
A collaboration between the veteran industrial-alt band Nine Inch Nails and German Iraqi electronic producer Alex Ridha, who records under the name Boys Noize, became the well-received Day 2 performance by \u201cNine Inch Noize.\u201d<\/p>\n\n<\/aside>\nOther highlights included Pink Pantheress, the Strokes, Giveon, Addison Rae, Morat, and singer-songwriter Sombr, who was joined by Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan on the group\u2019s hit \u201c1979.\u201d<\/p>\n
Critics also praised old schooler David Byrne and veteran rocker Jack White \u2014 who was only added to the Day 2 lineup on Tuesday \u2014 for showing the Gen Zers how it\u2019s done.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/aside>\nSabrina Carpenter headlined Friday and unveiled \u201cSabrina\u2019s Pit Stop,\u201d a pop-up experience created in partnership with Airbnb. The installation, located at 82338 CA-111 and open through Sunday, features photo-themed vignettes, custom slushie stations and merchandise for sale.<\/p>\n\n<\/aside>\n\u201cThis is a full circle moment for me. I wouldn\u2019t be here without my fans, so I wanted to created something special just for them. It\u2019s not your typical pit stop \u2014 I wanted it to feel like a surrealist fantasy land of mine,\u201d Carpenter said.<\/p>\n
Among the other artists performing across eight stages Friday were The xx, Disclosure, Lykke Li, Joyce Manor, Moby, Swae Lee, Sexyy Red and Katseye.<\/p>\n
Friday\u2019s festivities were marred a bit by strong winds that sent a heavy light fixture falling onto the crowd during DJ John Summit\u2019s set on the Do LaB Stage, striking one fan in the head and drawing blood, according to multiple social media reports.<\/p>\n\n<\/aside>\nThe winds also caused the Italian-American DJ Anyma, along with Coachella officials, to cancel his performance due to gusts affecting the stage build.<\/p>\n
\u201cCoachella and Anyma have made this decision together with your safety as a priority,\u201d according to a message projected on the stage screen. Anyma was scheduled to close the main stage Friday. No additional performances were canceled due to the winds, but the gusts destroyed many campers\u2019 tents, leaving some people to chase after their canopies and belongings.<\/p>\n
A new addition to this year\u2019s festival is \u201cThe Bunker Debut of Radiohead Motion Picture House Kid A Mnesia,\u201d an installation that features a 75-minute large format film made of thousands of fragments created by Radiohead lead singer Thom Yorke and English artist Stanley Donwood during the recordings of albums \u201cKid A\u201d and \u201cAmnesiac.\u201d Sketches, paintings, collages, audio recordings and handwritten notes will also be available.<\/p>\n\n<\/aside>\nRadiohead is not scheduled to perform at this year\u2019s festival.<\/p>\n
The Indio Police Department urged attendees and nearby residents call the department\u2019s non-emergency line for concert-related concerns such as loud music or excessive noise, parking or traffic issues and loitering. The non-emergency line is at 760-391-4051.<\/p>\n
