As the former head writer of The Daily Show<\/a><\/em> and the co-creator of The Colbert Report<\/a><\/em>, television producer Ben Karlin has known Stephen Colbert<\/a> for more than 25 years. And he doesn\u2019t think the comedian is going to go \u201cscorched earth\u201d on CBS<\/a> when the network ends The Late Show With Stephen Colbert<\/a><\/em> next month.<\/p>\n \u201cHe\u2019s a classy guy. He\u2019s a classy guy,\u201d Karlin said of Colbert on The Daily Beast\u2019s Obsessed<\/a><\/em> podcast. \u201cI think he\u2019s capable of killing with kindness. I think what he doesn\u2019t say is sometimes better than what can be said. But he is just a class act.\u201d<\/p>\n Karlin pointed out that, recent developments notwithstanding, Colbert has many reasons to be grateful to CBS. \u201cAt the end of the day, they paid [Colbert] a ton of money,\u201d he said. \u201cHe got to do a version of the show that he wanted to do for a long time. He got to bring a lot of the people from [The Colbert Report<\/em>] with him, and everyone\u2019s done really, really well. It\u2019s a beautiful theater. I think it\u2019s been a privilege. I think he would say that, too.\u201d<\/p>\n
